Fashion Trends 2023: Fall Looks From The Runway To Wear Now

Designers like Fendi and Bottega Veneta showed head-to-toe red looks that serve as perfect inspiration for those looking to make a statement. Despite any taboo beliefs, red dresses will take over as the color of choice for wedding guest dressing and formalwear.

If you aren’t comfortable wearing an entirely red outfit, consider adding a red accent to a natural look. A red bag, scarf, or pop of lipstick can easily elevate your look.

The Fendi collection debuted back in February of last year but its influence is still fully felt. It’s no longer taboo to have undergarments show through your frock—in fact, it’s preferred. Almost every major collection on the NYFW runways incorporated completely see-through garments.

While many of the sheer pieces would be suitable for street style statements or a night in a dimly lit room, Jason Wu gave us multiple examples of sheer design in formal wear. The designer sent a strong variety of sheer gowns down the runway in his Spring/Summer ’23 collection In a backstage interview with Jason Wu minutes before his show, he said, “Of course, there’s always going to be dreamy gowns but you might see a sexy side of Jason Wu that you may not be so familiar with—but get used to it.”

The look takes elements of the demure, girly school aesthetic (plaid skirts, ruffled collars and pink bows) and fuses them with street-style grunge (heavy piercings, lug sole shoes and mesh layering). At the heart of the neighborhood, you’ll also find Sandy Liang’s storefront—looking out onto the street with a front-row view of the aesthetic she’s helped craft. It’s no wonder then that Sandy Liang’s S/S ‘23 collection was a direct reflection of the environment with girly-grunge pastel mini dresses. Liang paired the looks with ballet flats (the trend is here to stay!) or sleek sporty sneakers. Similar versions of the ensemble were also seen at Alessandra Rich and Valentino. If you’re eager to create your own version of the city school aesthetic, I’d recommend browsing the racks at your local vintage store first.

The rosette trend that was everywhere in the spring and summer has been replaced with a more holiday-like trend for fall and winter: bows. If you’re wearing it, you can add a bow to it. Dresses, puffer vests, and hairstyles are all fair game for rocking bows.

While you can spend big bucks on a beautiful brand-name piece from a designer like Sandy Liang, you can also easily DIY this trend at home. A trip to the craft store and a pair of scissors is all you need to get the look.

Hair bows will add soft flair to any outfit, whether a blazer and jeans or a ballerina-style dress. This is also a great accessory for fall and winter because you can wear them even when a big puffer jacket covers the rest of your outfit.

A Cold Shoulder

Cut-outs and asymmetrical hemlines dominated spring and summer fashion. Balmain showed a gorgeous leather take on the trend while Altuzarra provided some all-white bridal inspiration.

Funnel neck coats dominated outerwear trends on the runway and the look has the European stamp of approval. French brands, Chloé and Isabel Marant, both included funnel neck coats in the fall/winter ’23 collections, and Italian brand, Ferragamo followed suit.
