So, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives depicts a group of women challenging gender roles and norms within the Mormon Church. But a “fruity pebbles” story got out after it was told in confidence between two friends, drama usually follows suit—and has fans frantically googling what it could mean. (And let’s preface this by saying it actually doesn’t matter, Demi and Brett’s sex life is between the two of them.)

Demi Engemann, one of the show’s stars, was speaking with her friend, Whitney. A certain brand of cereal seemingly represents (is it code name for??) “something intimate” between Demi and her husband, Brett. Then, Whitney blabbed about it to the group, betraying Demi’s confidence and, honestly, kink-shaming her friend with a pretty embarrassing reenactment.
“The fruity cereal has to do with taste,” Whitney said during a piece-to-camera. When Whitney presents Demi with a box of said cereal as a gag gift, Demi is less than impressed. “This specific thing that she was trying to make light of and make a joke was something that was completely intimate and off the table, that was between Brett and I,” Demi told producers of the show. “We swore to each other that we would never tell a soul about that. I just think it’s below the belt.” Truth.
Fans on Reddit pointed to Whitney’s “reenactment” while standing over Mayci’s face. “The more I think about it, it has to be she stood over him and gave him a golden shower and he said it tasted like Fruity Pebbles,” one speculated. “I thought she p—d on him and it smelled like fruity cereal,” another fan theorized.

“I don’t think cereal was involved, I just don’t think their husbands go down on any of them hence why they’re so shocked by how ‘scandalous'”, said one fan on another thread, to which someone added for more context: “Oral was expressly prohibited in Mormonism till at least the mid 1980’s. Bishops would ask couples about it during worthiness interviews. They stopped asking the questions, but it’s still been very taboo. I know a few married mormons who would consider any oral stuff (for him or her) wild and off limits.”
According to one Mormon Church resource, this directive that oral sex isn’t allowed appears to have been misinterpreted as gospel to all followers of the church, rather than guidance to find suitable missionaries. “There has never been a letter, talk, or statement reaffirming the statement that oral sex is off limits to couples since the original letter in January 1982,” according to Mormon Marriages.
“Not every statement made by a Church leader, past or present, necessarily constitutes doctrine. A single statement made by a single leader on a single occasion often represents a personal, though well-considered, opinion, but is not meant to be officially binding for the whole Church.”
