Bachelorette Gabby Windey Comes Out & Debuts New Girlfriend: ‘Some News, I’m Gay’

Robby Hoffman (2023 – Present)

Gabby Windey announced that she was dating comedian and writer Robby Hoffman in an interview on The View on August 2, 2023. “I always just want to live my truth, and my story,” she said. “And I have been seeing someone for a couple months, and I’ve been keeping it a little more private because it is a bigger story and a bigger conversation, because I’m dating a girl!” She continued, “Knowing how people cared, I just want to be honest. I don’t want to live and not be living my full truth. I don’t want to do it to myself or my girlfriend or other people who really care about me and feel like they know me.”

She also confirmed the news in an Instagram post with a slideshow of photos of her and Robby together. “Told you I’m a girls girl!!” she captioned the post.She posted another photo of her kissing Robby on her Instagram Story with the caption, “Guys some news… I am gay.” When asked on The View if Gabby’s ex-fiance, Erich Schwer, knew she was dating a woman after their breakup, Gabby said, “He doesn’t know.” The View co-host Alyssa Farrah Griffin responded, “He knows now!” 

Gabby explained on The View that she wanted to announce her girlfriend and sexuality on the talk show because her “story has been told for [her] so many times being on TV with editing and production.” “Obviously, I was on dating shows dating men and a Broncos cheerleader, so it was like my whole world was male-gaze. [So] it took me a while to stop questioning and just start trusting and I’m fully trusted and I’m here,” she said. “I think that’s really the big takeaway is, like, maybe it’s not so much — like obviously it’s about sexuality, but it’s also the person I met. She is so special. She makes me feel so safe, so loved.” Gabby also described her relationship with Robby as “a love that I always wanted going on these dating shows.”

Erich Schwer (2022)

Gabby Windey and real estate analyst Erich Schwer met and got engaged on The Bachelorette Season 19 in 2022. Gabby gave her final rose to Erich at the Final Rose Ceremony, where he proposed to her and they got engaged. Gabby and Erich confirmed they were still together during The Bachelorette Season 19 “After the Final Rose” special, where they also responded to rumors that Erich was dating a woman named Amanda Kaylor right before he went on The Bachelorette Season 19. I led her on and I want to own that. No hard feelings toward this girl at all. I understand her actions. … I didn’t want to have a hard conversation. But I’ve learned a lot from it. I want to own that 100 percent. I do not have any hard feelings for this girl. It’s a mistake I made on my part,” Erich said. He continued, “I was using the show as an excuse to not confront her about our relationship. I didn’t see a future but we were having fun. … I love [Gabby] with all my heart. 100 percent real. I never expected it. I want this to be forever.”

Gabby and Erich announced their breakup in November 2022 while Gabby was a contestant on Dancing With the Stars Season 23, which she was the runner-up of with professional dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy. “A lot of you are reaching out with questions about me and Gabby. The reality is that we ultimately were not each others people – it’s hard when there isn’t one thing to put your finger on. We met in a very unique situation and in a very unique way and I’m grateful we did,” he wrote. “I would never take it back. Gabby is an amazing person and she is doing amazing things. I will always root for her and I hope she gives them hell in the DWTS finale. I have learned and grown so much this year from experiences and mistakes and I continue to better myself every day. I am hoping to take this time with my family and loved ones and focus on myself. I have been working hard these past few months and I’m excited to share with y’all eventually.”

Gabby also confirmed her breakup on an episode of Dancing with the Stars. “For me, [love] holds a special place because I did just go through a break up,” she said. “The end of our relationship happened because we weren’t completely in step and in sync with each other on our common goals or just the way we approach life. We weren’t each other’s best match.” She continued, “But I’m just so grateful that my dad and my stepmom encompass so many fundamentals and values that I look for in a relationship: never placing blame or you did this or that. OK, someone left the microwave dirty. But, like, it doesn’t matter. … I want to channel that kind of everlasting love in this dance.”

Clayton Echard (2022)

Gabby Windey and medical sales representative Clayton Echard met on The Bachelor Season 26 in 2022. They broke up in The Bachelor Season 26 finale when Clayton sent home Gabby and his other finalist, Rachel Recchia, in the final three after deciding that he wanted to get back together with former contestant Susie Evans, whom he eliminated during Fantasy Suite Dates. 

During The Bachelor Season 26 “After the Final Rose” special, Gabby accused Clayton of pitting his finalists against each other. Watching it back, everything is so muddled, and you are clearly pitting us against each other,” she said. “It really seems like a competition, which I had expressed to you that I didn’t want to be a part of.” Despite her accusations, Gabby also told Clayton that she didn’t think his behavior was “malicious,” though he criticized him for telling Susie that he loved her “the most” out of his final three contestants and not telling her, knowing that would be a dealbreaker for them. “I don’t have the same needs as Susie. I’m not Susie, and neither is Rachel,” Gabby said. “So you have to treat us as individuals.”

Dean Unglert 

Gabby Windey and Dean Unglert, a contestant on The Bachelorette Season 13 and Bachelor in Paradise Seasons 4 and 6, dated while in college at the University of Colorado. Dean confirmed the relationship on an episode of his podcast “Help! I Suck at Dating” in October 2021. “She was, like, one of the main exes. She was my girlfriend from college,” he said at the time. “Producers called me and were like, ‘Hey, we’re thinking of casting this person — what do you think of her? We know that you dated 10 years ago.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, she’s great. If she gets selected for the show, she’ll either win the show or she’ll be the next Bachelorette.’ And I firmly believe that.”

In an interview on the “Talking It Out With Bachelor Nation” podcast in January 2022, Gabby called Dean, however, one of her “first loves.” “It was just so long ago,” she said. “It’s a distant past from my experience on ‘The Bachelor’ and you know, Clayton [Echard] and I’s story, it’s very much its own thing. I’m always really grateful that it was so far in the past, so I could focus more on Clayton and kind of separate [that].”

Blake Horstmann 

Gabby Windey and Blake Horstmann, a contestant on The Bachelorette Season 14 and Bachelor in Paradise Season 5, dated before her time on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Blake confirmed the relationship in an episode of the podcast “Help! I Suck at Dating” with host and Bachelor Nation alum Dean Unglert, who also dated Gabby. We like the same girls, man. I didn’t know Dean until obviously, like, 2018, but Gabby was a good friend of one of my very good friends from college, they were roommates,” he said, adding that the two were together for a “couple months.” “I met Gabby long before I was on The Bachelorette, like, I want to say maybe 2015 or 2016. We hung out for a little bit, so I know her very well. And Dean, I don’t know how it came up, but one time, me and Dean were sitting there — I think we were in Buffalo, and he mentioned Gabby — and I was like, ‘How do you know Gabby?’ And he was like, ‘Dude, she was, like, my girl in college, you know, we were in love and blah blah.’”

He continued, “She’s fun. She has a very outgoing personality, very loud, like, when she walks into a room, you know she’s in a room. You never know if the lead is going to be into something like that. You never know if they like the more shy, quiet type or they like the loud, outgoing type, but she’s definitely very loud, very outgoing, she has a lot of friends. So if Clayton’s into that, I see her getting hometowns, for sure. She’s a beautiful woman. … They’re gonna have the football player, cheerleader story line.”

In an interview on the “Talking It Out With Bachelor Nation” podcast in January 2022, Gabby claimed that she and Blake “hung out for a little” but weren’t ever in an official relationship. “Blake and I had mutual friends,” Gabby said, noting that they met after she graduated from college in 2014. “We never actually went on a date. There was no drinks paid for. No dinner paid for. [Blake’s] saying we dated… He’s definitely friends of friends. You know, we had spent time together and stuff but definitely no, like, official dating, like, no really kind of formal, no exclusivity and again, it was a really long time ago.”
