Grace Van Patten Revealed She Had Her 1st Fight With Jackson White on the Set of Tell Me Lies—It’s ‘Couple’s Therapy’

Grace van Patten and Jackson White started dating during the audition process for Tell Me Lies. However, it wasn’t love at first sight. She recalled filming their first scenes together in an interview on Call Her Daddy. “I was like, ‘Alright. It’s fine. Maybe we won’t get along. But, like, he’s perfect for the part, and he’s so talented and great,’” she said. “And so, I was half-really excited that we found the Stephen. But the other just kinda rolled my eyes a little bit.”

Unlike their on-screen counterparts, the two are really wholesome when it comes to their real life relationship. “No. We’re wildly different, thank goodness,” she told People. She’s even suggested that filming their toxic fights acted like couple’s therapy. “It’s amazing. We had our first fight on camera,” she said. “We got it out of the way, yeah.”

After four years together and three seasons of the hit Hulu series, the two are still going strong thanks to their strong relationship philosophy. “Our approach to [our relationship] is we’re not going to flaunt anything and we’re not going to hide anything, Van Patten told Nylon. “We’re going to live our lives the way we would if we weren’t on a show together because the second you start making those adjustments and accepting it, that’s when I’d start to feel really strange about life.”

“I’d so much rather be who I am and live my life how I live it and not adapt because now this part of me is under the microscope,” she adds. “It’s easy because even if we were never on the show together, I wouldn’t be posting a million posts about my boyfriend.”

To lock down their relationship in an even more permanent way, White revealed that van Patten has given him several tattoos like the one behind his ear and on his finger.

Nat Wolff (2017 – c. 2021)

Grace Van Patten was in a relationship with Nat Wolff from 2017 to around 2021. The two haven’t spoken much about their relationship, but were frequently seen on red carpets together. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he quarantined with Van Patten, according to i-D.

While filming Nine Perfect Strangers, Van Patten recalled to Vogue Australia that she and Wolff rented a camper van and drove along the Aussie coast.  we drove down the whole coast, all the way to Melbourne. It was a month. It was the best time ever, we got a little Jucy Van and we drove down the coast. It was magical… I felt like I really needed to soak it all in and I had nothing to go back to, I mean, besides my family. That was the hardest thing, just being away from my family that long. But I felt like it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I probably will not have the opportunity again, to live in a van and just take it day by day. So it was a really important experience for me.” 

Wolff, who’s currently linked to singer/songwriter Billie Eilish, seems to share the same philosophies with his ex. In a talk with Cosmopolitan, he shared his opinion on posting relationships online. “Broadcasting your relationship in 2025 is shitty and annoying,” he said. “You know when you see a couple that’s posting a lot about each other, you’re like, ‘they’re about to break up.’ It’s the same when you see couples getting tattoos of each other’s names. I’d give it like 3 months.”
