Gypsy-Rose Blanchard’s Boyfriend Broke Up With Her Because of a Podcast—Inside Her Past & Present Relationships

Ken Urker (2018 – 2019, 2024 – present)

Gypsy-Rose Blanchard’s boyfriend is Ken Urker, a man she was briefly engaged to while still in prison and before she met Ryan Scott Anderson. The two met after Urker watched Mommy Dead And Dearest and wrote to her after he finished watching it with his mother. The two became engaged while she was in prison in 2019, but broke it off a year later.

Rumors of their reconciliation began in April 2024, when they were photographed having lunch together and getting matching tattoos. At the time, Urker’s mom denied the rumors the two were dating. “They are not back together,” Williams told People.

“They’re very cool. Ken is just being a supportive friend to her and that’s it.” She continued: “I think she’s a sweet girl. I think she’s made her mistakes and she’s trying to learn from them like anyone else. And I care a lot for Gypsy and I want to see good things happen for her.”

In June 2024, Blanchard confirmed she and Urker had gotten back together. “After reconnecting earlier this month, we realized that our love for each other is simply undeniable, and life is too short to not take a chance,” she said. “We have a history that made for the perfect foundation for a new beginning. We are together and in a wonderful place in our relationship. We know it is going to be a long road ahead but are excited for the future.”

Urker revealed that a Dr. Phil podcast made them break up the first time around. “Well, I think one of the biggest things was outside opinion and influence,” Urker told People. “I had listened to a podcast from Dr. Phil, and I had a lot of people in my ear just telling me that the best thing I can do for her is to give her some time to build a self-identity that she’s never been able to build before, and even while she’s in prison.”

“And I felt that, at the time, all those opinions — especially Dr. Phil’s — I felt like that was the right choice to make at the time for both of us,” he continues. “So we went off in separate directions, but fate allowed us to meet back up again.”

Ryan Scott Anderson (2020 – 2022)

Gypsy-Rose Blanchard was briefly married to her prison pen pal, Ryan Scott Anderson. It started innocently enough; he sent her a letter in 2020 and said that he never expected to hear back from her, but by May 2020, they were regularly corresponding.

“We met in 2020 when the pandemic was really, really strong, and I had a lot of emotional ups and downs because of COVID,” Blanchard told People. “Unfortunately, it put the prison in a position to where it restricted our freedom even more … So Ryan has seen me through some really good times, some really hard times.”

He reportedly picked her up from the Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri around 3:30 a.m. on December 29, 2023. Ahead of her release, she told People: “I know the home that I’m going home to is with my husband, and I’m going to have a really supportive family dynamic. And I think that that’s what I’ve been missing this whole time.”

In 2022, Anderson and Blanchard obtained a marriage license in Chillicothe, Missouri. It wouldn’t last, however, because People discovered the couple split on March 28, 2024. A very subtle detail in Gypsy Rose’s divorce post hints that the couple grew apart.

“People have been asking what is going on in my life. Unfortunately, my husband and I are going through a separation and I moved in with my parent’s home down the bayou,” she wrote in a statement obtained by People from her private Facebook account. “I have the support of my family and friends to help guide me through this. I am learning to listen to my heart. Right now I need time to let myself find… who I am.”

Nicholas Godejohn (2012 – 2018)

Gypsy Rose met Nicholas on a Christian dating site in 2013. Buzzfeed News reported that the two texted each other about their future together—including what names they would give their children. The two met for the first time in person in 2015.

In June 2015, he traveled to the Blanchards’ home near Springfield, where he stabbed Dee Dee Blanchard 17 times while Gypsy Rose hid in the bathroom and covered her ears. Friends of Dee Dee notified the police to do a wellness check after a troubling message appeared on her Facebook page reading: “That Bitch is dead!”, which is still on her page to this day. The IP address was traced back to Nicholas’ home in Wisconsin.

Godejohn is now serving a prison sentence at the Potosi Correctional Center, per The Springfield News-Leader. He was sentenced to life without parole. In 2022, he asked to set aside his previous conviction and order a new trial on the grounds that he had ineffective counsel in his trial, per The Springfield News-Leader. The motion was denied in 2023. In a 2019 interview for the Oxygen special,  Gypsy Rose & Nick: A Love to Kill, he called his time with Gypsy “the best days of my life.” 

“From the very beginning, I just knew we were soulmates,” he continued. “Those five days when I was actually with her, physically with her, those five days were the most intense, and magical, and awe-inspiring days I’ve ever had.”

He talked about how he needed to carry out the murder in order for them to be together. “Somehow I just knew, deep within my heart, some way me and her would end up being together in the end. There’s no other option, we gotta do it,” he said, referring to the murder. “I wanted to make sure her mom was not going to harm her anymore. I made sure of that.”

We don’t know exactly when Gyspy and Nicholas broke up but their relationship deteriorated quickly after news broke Gypsy was engaged to another man in 2019.
