Jamie Spears’ Response to Britney Spears’ book
How did Jamie Spears respond to Britney Spears’s book? TMZ reported that a source close to the Spears family said that “Jamie’s not sweating what Britney has to say about him in her new book, “The Woman In Me,” because she’s already trashed him both in court and on social media, once saying she hoped he’d spend the rest of his life in jail.”
The source continued, “Jamie has no clue what made the final cut in Britney’s memoir … and he’s not interested in finding out because he lived through it and knows the truth.”
Britney went into great detail about what her father controlled during the conservatorship in her memoir. In one instance, Britney recalled an instance where she was using vitamin supplements and her father sent her to rehab as a result. “My father didn’t like that. He knew what I ate; he even knew when I would go to the bathroom. So when I started taking energy supplements, he saw that I had more energy onstage and that I was in better shape than I had been.” She wrote that “started to think that [she] had a problem with those energy supplements, even though they were over-the-counter, not prescription.”
“So he told me I had to get off them, and he sent me to rehab,” she wrote, noting that she stayed in a facility in Malibu, California. “I was scared to be there by myself,” she remembers, calling her father “horrible” for “throwing [her] away” in a “place with crack and heroin addicts.”
Right after rehab, she was immediately on stage for her Piece of Me Las Vegas residency. “When I got out, I started doing shows again in Vegas like nothing had happened,” the “Piece of Me” singer writes. “Part of that was because my father told me I had to get back out there, and part of it was because I was still so nice, so eager to please, so desperate to do the right thing and be a good girl.”
Jamie has made at least $5 million from Britney’s conservatorship prior to its termination in November 2021, according to Forbes. Per court documents reviewed by the publication, Britney has had to pay her father $16,000 per month since February 2009 as her conservator. In 12 years, that amount has equaled to $2.4 million. As far as his legal fees are concerned, Britney’s lawyer claimed in court documents filed in August 2021 that Jamie spent over $1.3 million in attorney fees from October 2020 to June 2021 alone. He also alleged that Jamie asked for $541,000 in the past year for “media matters” as Britney’s conservator. “There has been an evident dissipation of assets of Ms. Spears Estate, and that dissipation is ongoing,” he said at the time.
During her bombshell court hearing in June 2021, Britney accused Jamie and other family members of living off of her for years. “Considering my family has lived off my conservatorship for 13 years, I won’t be surprised if one of them has something to say [against ending my conservatorship],” she said at the time. “I just don’t like feeling like I work for the people who I pay.”
Britney also thanked her supporters during her court hearing. “If you stood up for me when I couldn’t stand up for myself,” she tells her readers, “from the bottom of my heart, thank you.”
