Jason Kelce responds to Travis Kelce & Taylor Swift dating
Jason Kelce responded to Travis Kelce dating Taylor Swift, saying he’s “happy” for his brother. “It’s certainly been weird, the level that it is now,” he told NBC Sports on Sunday, October 22. “On one hand, I’m happy for my brother that he seems to be in a relationship that he’s excited about [and] that he is genuine about. But there’s another end of it where it’s like, ‘Man, this is a lot.’”
He added that Swift is “another level of stardom that typically football players don’t deal with” and with that, comes some concerns. “There’s some alarms, sometimes, with how over-in-pursuit people can be,” Jason said. “Overall, he can deal with some of this. As long as it’s not becoming a threat to his safety and things like that.”
In the October 4 episode of their podcast New Heights, Travis talked about why he thinks the NFL is overdoing their coverage. “Let’s get to it, is the NFL overdoing it?,” Jason asked about the celebrity coverage. “What’s your honest opinion? Take away your feelings for Taylor…” which prompted a laugh from Travis.
Travis said, “I think it’s fun when they show who was at the game. I think it brings a little bit more to the atmosphere, brings a little bit more to what you’re watching. But at the same time I think-“
“They’re overdoing it,” Jason finished, to which Kelce agreed: “They’re overdoing it a little bit for sure, especially my situation. [But] I think they’re just trying to have fun with it.”
On September 24, Taylor was spotted with the Kelce brother’s mom Donna in a suite at Arrowhead Stadium and celebrating a touchdown that Travis scored against the Chicago Bears. Right after the game, they drove down in Travis’ convertible to an intimate dinner together.
“Shoutout to Taylor for pulling up,” Kelce said on New Heights. “That was pretty ballsy. I just thought it was awesome that everybody in the suite had nothing but good things to say about her, the friends, and family. She looked amazing, everybody was talking about her in great light, and on top of that the day went perfect for the Chiefs.”
Before Travis and Taylor went public, Jason previously explained on the WIP Morning Show, that “It’s hard to answer because I don’t really know a lot about what’s happening with Travis’ love life,” and added that he was “blindsided” by the speculation. He called the rumor “out of that world” before saying, “But having said that, man, I think they’re doing great, and I think it’s all 100 percent true and I hope that this thing goes the mile.”
He then cleared up what he said by saying he was joking and that he stays out of his brother’s business, “No I’m joking. I don’t even know what’s happening.”
On September 14, 2023, during Prime Video’s broadcast of Thursday night football, he also commented on his brother’s love life. “I’ve seen these rumors. I cannot comment,” Jason told panelist and retired NFL star Tony Gonzalez. “Ever since Catching Kelce everybody’s been infatuated with Travis’ love life,” Jason said, referring to his brother’s short-lived reality dating show. “I don’t really know what’s going on there, but I know Travis is having fun and we’ll see what happens with whoever he ends up with.”
It’s not to say that Travis wouldn’t. A source told ET that, “Travis has been into Taylor for a while and definitely has a crush on her. He is a simple guy that is very funny, charismatic, chill, and loves playing football.” This comes after The Messenger reported that “Taylor and Travis have been quietly hanging out,” a source said. “She saw him when she was in NYC a few weeks ago,” without adding any other context.
Some of the NFL community weighed in on the rumors: “The lady that sells out every stadium in the world ten times. The lady who plays for three and a half hours and [New England Patriots coach] Bill Belichick says, ‘She’s pretty tough, man.’ Said you know what? The man of my dreams, that I’m gonna marry—this isn’t just date, like others in the past—is an NFL guy,” podcast host and former NFL punter Pat McAfee said on his show.
“I’m so pumped for Trav. Very happy for the new couple, if it’s real. Trav and Taylor are going to take over the world. I do fear all of her songs, just from listening to them, but her songs are like a diary. Trav, what we’re saying to you is treat her right.” Another football fan tweeted: “I will only believe updates about Travis Kelce’s knee if they are reported by Taylor Swift, preferably through song.”
In April 2023, Kelce was also rumored to be linked with Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion after snapshots of the two at the Country Music Awards surfaced. It’s alleged that Kelce even went as far as to fly the Houston-based rapper to Austin, the location of the award show, aboard his private jet. Once again, the rumors were never confirmed, and it seems as though the two are likely just good pals, as evidenced by their mutual following of each other on IG.
A few months before the CMT news, in January 2023, Kelce confirmed his single status to the hosts of The Pivot Podcast. “I’m in the free market right now,” he said. “I’m out there just enjoying life. Focused on my profession.”
Meanwhile, Travis is hoping to be back on the field after suffering what could’ve been a season-ending knee injury. “People actually don’t know how big of a bullet they missed on Travis Kelce,” NFL correspondent Jay Glazer said of how devastating Kelce’s injury could’ve been on FOX NFL. “When it first happened, they actually thought there was a tibial plateau fracture, which is a fracture of the leg, which would’ve put him out for the year. Instead, he just had a really deep bone bruise. They had to pull out 45 cc of blood.”
The champion tight end is optimistic he’ll be back for week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, as he explained on New Heights. “Not fun dealing with an injury, especially that late in the week because then you for 72 hours straight are just worried about one single thing,” Kelce said. “Everybody’s asking you about it. Everybody’s in your ear about it. Everybody’s just trying to figure out … the best scenario,” he said.
“It’s not like the organization was banking on me being back, but everybody in the organization is asking me how I’m doing so that we can go out there with the right game plan, the right mentality. And, yeah, it’s just not fun, just not a lot of sleep. And a lot of focus on a knee that wasn’t getting better fast enough.” He concluded that, “Things are looking up. I feel good. I feel a lot better than I did last week. I did run yesterday and it feels like I might be able to play this week. We’ll see how practice goes.”
