It was one of the best games of the NFL season and it wasn’t even the playoffs, but Joe Burrow’s injury had Bengals fans worried during the electrifying game against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, November 16, 2023. The talented quarterback had battled injuries all year; he’d finally recovered from a calf strain in August but midway through the second quarter against Baltimore, tragedy struck once more.

Born on December 10, 1996, in Ames, Iowa, Burrow’s father Jimmy was a longtime college football coach. Joe played high school football at Athens High School, where he had a successful career and earned a reputation as a talented quarterback.

After high school, Burrow attended Ohio State University. However, he transferred to Louisiana State University (LSU) in 2018 to become the starting quarterback for the LSU Tigers. In his senior season in 2019, Burrow had a historic year, setting numerous records and leading LSU to a national championship victory. He won the Heisman Trophy, awarded to the best player in college football, and his performance was widely regarded as one of the best in college football history.

In the 2020 NFL Draft, he was selected as the first overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals. He signed a rookie contract with the team and quickly became their starting quarterback. Burrow’s rookie season showed promise, but unfortunately, it was cut short due to a season-ending knee injury in November 2020. Now, he’s battling another hurdle and his future for the rest of the year is unclear. Joe Burrow’s injury is an unfortunate setback because everything at the Bengals was beginning to click.
