Julianne Hough Recalled Ryan Seacrest ‘Hitting on’ Her in Front of Her Ex in a Resurfaced Interview—Take a Look at All Her Relationships

Brooks Laich (2013- 2020)

Julianne Hough was married to hockey playerBrooks Laich from 2015 to 2020. The two met through mutual friends in 2013. In 2019, Hough revealed she was was “going through IVF” so that they could increase their odds of starting a family.

After month of speculation during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, the two announced they were ending their relationship. They said in a joint statement to People: “We have lovingly and carefully taken the time we have needed to arrive at our decision to separate. We share an abundance of love and respect for one another and will continue to lead with our hearts from that place.” They finalized their divorce in 2022.

In an interview on the Jamie Kern Lima show, Hough explained why her coming out as not straight put a strain in the relationship. “My ex was contracting,” she said. “Because he had just got let go from playing hockey and he was going through an identity shift.”

She noted, “It was an expansion for me and a contraction for him, and we weren’t understanding each other, and I don’t think we had the maturity to come together.”

Ryan Seacrest (2010 – 2013)

Julianne Hough and Ryan Seacrest were together for three years before splitting amicably in 2013. A little over a year later, Hough opened up about her past relationship to Redbook. “There was nothing wrong or bad, but there was nothing right,” she told the outlet. “I had one foot out because I didn’t want to get hurt. And I didn’t say what was on my mind because I didn’t want to ruffle any feathers. I needed to be perfect.”

On Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Julianne talked about what led to her decision to end things. She recalled that she didn’t want people to think she was using him to get connections. “I had this insecurity that I was like, ‘I don’t ever want anybody to think that I’m with him for this reason,’” she reflected. “And so I then started playing smaller. I know that that was his experience in past situations and stuff, and so I again overcompensated, [I] was malleable to fit into exactly what somebody needed me to be for them to be happy.”

“And then because I’m so filled with love from someone, of course I love you. I love everyone. I’ve been in love with everybody I’ve ever dated, but have I? I don’t wanna overanalyze it because every person I’ve also dated has been a very good person.”

Chuck Wicks (2008 – 2009)

Julianne Hough was later in a relationship with country musician Chuck Wicks, who later became her Dancing with the Stars partner. The two were the eighth partners to be eliminated. “It has been so much fun and really hilarious to see Chuck try to dance,” Hough wrote on her MySpace celebrity blog. “Even thinking about it is funny! He is actually doing very well though. I was really surprised.”

Julianne Hough also recalled their joint appearance on On Air With Ryan Seacrest and how she got the hint that the host liked her. “The interview’s on YouTube, and I blush when I hear it because Ryan is hitting on me the entire time!” Hough told Glamour in 2012. “At the end, Ryan said something like, ‘You guys really have something special!’ And I thought to myself, He’s so full of s–t right now!”

The two broke up in November 2009. The musician recounted their breakup in 2020 on his podcast.
“It wasn’t fine,” he said. “S– hit the fan. I’m not going to throw anybody under the bus but … It wasn’t my fault.”

“When Julianne and I broke up … I was like, ‘When am I going to see her?’ Because I played the game,” he said. “In the public eye, I was like, ‘Oh, man, it’s great.’ But actually, I didn’t really like her at the time.”

“Now, I just don’t even care … It’s on you. You get past it,” he added. “I’ve seen her one time. I’ve seen her one time in 10 years.”

Zack Wilson (2007)

Julianne Hough was engaged to Zack Wilson, a man who she met on a Mormon mission trip. She told Glamour in 2012 that they were friends since they were younger, but they broke up because of her dreams to become an actress. “He was a great guy—I’d known him since I was nine,” she told the outlet. “But I needed to figure myself out more, and so I moved to L.A. and we ended it. And actually, he ended up marrying my childhood best friend, and now they have a kid together. It was a little weird when it happened, but they’re a great couple!”
