I’m 5’3” with a long torso and shorter legs, so finding jeans that fit well is always a challenge. The mom jean trend was my favorite because it was easy to find a pair of pants with a high-waist and I could get away with rolling the bottoms up or going for a more straight, cropped silhouette, which would hit just below my ankle instead of slightly above. But now, with the return of baggy jeans styles—including barrel jeans—I am once again faced with the dilemma of choosing a short jeans fit (which doesn’t always work on me for some reason) or getting my pants hemmed.

However, I might not have as much trouble as I initially thought. While on a recent hunt for fall denim, I came across what I believe are the best barrel jeans for short women, which made me so excited to finally participate in this season’s trendiest style.

As much as I have wanted to participate in the barrel jeans trend, I’ve had a hard time finding a pair that works for me. Since I have shorter legs, the silhouette often feels a bit too baggy, and the barrel silhouette ends up lost because of all the extra material. Just Black Denim never disappoints, though, so when I saw they came out with The Seamed Barrel Jean, I had to give them a try.

The jeans are designed to have a more oversized fit, which actually counteracts a lot of the issues I’ve had with other barrel jeans styles. Since they have a more relaxed, baggy look to begin with, the extra material feels a lot more intentional. That being said, they do run a bit big, so if you prefer to have a tighter fit at the waist, I recommend sizing down. I’m a size 26 in jeans, but I could have probably made a 25 work (though I like the loose waist look).

These are constructed from 100 percent cotton, which I honestly find hard to believe because they are so soft and feel worn in as soon as you slip them on. Usually, 100 percent cotton needs some time to shape to your body and can even feel restrictive, but the cotton used in these jeans is super soft and has a bit of give to them, which adds to that relaxed look.

Pros

  • Made from 100% cotton but don’t feel super stiff
  • Costs under $100
  • Comfortable and relaxed fit
  • Gorgeous medium blue denim wash

Cons

  • Since they’re a relaxed style, they run a little big. If you like your pants to fit more snugly, I recommend sizing down in these.
