With Fashion’s Biggest Night right around the corner, many K-pop fans might be wondering which of their favorite idols will be attending the Met Gala. For more than 20 years, K-pop has been making a splash in the Western music industry and fashion world, and we know that these musicians will eat up the fashion fundraiser’s theme. Every. Single. Time.
Even months leading up to the first Monday in May, people will always speculate which celebrities will be attending the exclusive event. In order to be invited to the Met Gala, you must be in Anna Wintour’s good graces or be invited by a brand that will pay for a table up to $75,000 per person. In recent years, K-pop idols have been showing up more frequently as plenty of them are brand ambassadors for large fashion houses like Saint Laurent, Tommy Hilfiger, and Dior.
This year, the theme for the Met’s fashion exhibit is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The dress code theme for the Gala is “Tailored For You,” which will complement the exhibit. In the hours leading up to the event, fans have speculated that SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups and Blackpink’s Jennie and Rosé will be attending the star-studded event after they were spotted at celebrity hot-spot hotel The Mark, where Met Gala attendees stay and prep before heading to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
