Vice President Kamala Harris doesn’t have bad hair days. Since her time as attorney general to her days as a U.S. senator and now, amid her work in the White House and on her 2024 presidential campaign, Harris has maintained a perfectly glossy mane. Parted usually to the side and finished with bouncy curls or flipped-up ends, Harris consistently serves up sophisticated #hairgoals.
She has been hailed the queen of silk presses, which is a method of straightening hair that usually requires a flat iron and hot comb used together to create silky smooth strands. Harris previously revealed the secret to her ‘do in a hilariously iconic interview on Keke Palmer’s “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer” podcast last year when asked, “How many times a month do you get a silk press?” (The frequency of Harris’ beauty salon visits has been a trending topic on social media for years.)
To Palmer’s surprise, Harris shared that she achieves her signature look with only a round brush as she prefers to use as little heat as possible. “I use a round brush. A boar bristle [brush] … it takes a lot of heat [for a silk press], but it’s just too much to do that and [a hot tool],” Harris told Palmer.
While Harris’ silk press process is unlike the typical method, her results are flawless. In addition to her crown’s buttery body, her tresses are colored a lively toffee hue with shades of caramel and honey mixed in.
