The global girl group Katseye has come a long way since their survival show. The six-member group debuted on June 28th, 2024 with the single, Debut, and their story is just getting started.

In 2023, HYBE, which is home to K-pop groups BTS, TXT, SEVENTEEN, LE SSERAFIM, and more, and Geffen Records announced global auditions for their first global girl group. The project received over 100,000 submissions, but only twenty were chosen to participate in the survival show The Debut: Dream Academy. After twelve weeks of challenges, the girls showed off their cool moves and their out-of-this-world effort. Six members were announced to debut: Sophia, Manon, Daniela, Megan, Lara, and Yoonchae.

The girl group released their first mini-album, SIS (Soft Is Strong) on August 16, 2024 with a Netflix docuseries titled Popstar Academy. The members have a lot of pride for their own cultures and want to showcase that in their performances and music. “One of our biggest missions through this whole project and with being this global group is to represent our people,” Lara told Teen Vogue. “Each of us has such a specific group of people that look up to us and feel like they can relate to us [and] I think that’s so beautiful. I’m so excited to actually see that in action and be able to influence people and make people of our cultures feel seen through our music. To really be that representation is our mission.”
