Kevin Spacey Charges: A Victim Described Him As a ‘Slippery Snaky’ Predator

What was Kevin Spacey charged with?

Spacey faced a series of legal challenges following these allegations. In 2018, he was charged with indecent assault and battery in Massachusetts. He pleaded not guilty, and the case was eventually dropped in 2019 when the accuser declined to testify. Outside of the United States, Spacey also faced multiple charges in the United Kingdom, with alleged incidents dating back to 2004.

The most significant of these legal proceedings took place in the UK, where Spacey faced up to 12 charges of sexual offenses. The trial, which took place in London, ended in July 2023 with Spacey being acquitted of all nine charges: including seven counts of sexual assault, one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent and one count of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent.

During the trial, he testified in his own defense, and the jury found him not guilty. Despite his acquittal, the allegations have had a lasting impact on Spacey’s career and public image.

Below are what the four victims said in their testimonies as well as other victims who came forward.

First Accuser

The first accuser among dozens of victims came forward and told the jury Spacey had touched him several times without his consent. One instance the actor grabbed his genitals while they were driving to a charity event. Spacey allegedly used so much force on the man, that the victim drove them off the road.  

Second Victim

A second victim claimed that Spacey had pinned him against a wall and grabbed his crotch during a 2005 charity event.

Third Accuser

A third accuser claimed Spacey assaulted him during a party at his rented house in Gloucester, where he claimed the actor kissed his neck, grabbed his penis, and told him to “be cool” about it.

Fourth Accuser

A fourth accuser alleged falling asleep at Spacey’s London apartment in 2008 and waking up to Spacey performing oral sex on him. This would have made Spacey have a life sentencing in prison.

Anthony Rapp

Actor Anthony Rapp accused Spacey of making a sexual advance toward him in 1986 when Rapp was just 14 years old. As Rapp’s story gained attention, several others stepped forward with similar claims against Spacey, alleging inappropriate behavior and sexual misconduct.

In response to these allegations, Spacey issued an apology to Rapp, though he stated he did not remember the incident. He also came out as gay, a move that was widely criticized for attempting to divert focus from the sexual misconduct accusations. The fallout from these allegations was swift, with significant repercussions for Spacey’s career. Netflix removed him from the final season of House of Cards, where he was the lead actor throughout the series, and he was also replaced in the 2017 crime film All the Money in the World, with his scenes being re-shot using another actor.

Fifth Accuser

 A man came forward to Vulture to detail his relationship with Kevin Spacey when he was 14 while the House of Cards actor was 24. “He was telling me that there were producers who were really interested in me as an actor and that he wanted to get me auditions,” he said. “He hadn’t seen me act since I was 12.” The artist said the relationship ended with an “attempted rape.” 

Sixth Accuser

One accuser claimed that Kevin Spacey groomed him at the age of 17 while the actor was in his mid-twenties “in a way I certainly wasn’t interested in.” One night, the accuser claimed that Spacey asked him to share a bed with him, but slept on the couch. He woke up with Spacey on top of him “in his underwear.” “It seems he was grooming me,” the accuser said, adding that Spacey eventually “backed off.”

Kate Edwards

Kate Edwards alleged that Kevin Spacey pressured her into having sex at the age of 17 while he was 27. They met at a James Dean themed birthday party. “I said I want to go home and change. I felt pressured, and it became quite clear that his intention was to have sex with me,” she recalled. “He became cold and said, ‘Find your own way.’ She was left “confused, completely isolated, ashamed.”

Justin Dawes

Justin Dawes claimed to Buzzfeed News that when he was 16 years old and Spacey was 29, the actor  Spacey gave him a cocktail and played pornography under the guise of playing Chinatown.

“We all had a drink, and we were kind of like, ‘Oh, no one else is coming?’ And he’s like, ‘Oh, no one else decided to come,’ and he never mentioned that this porn was playing. It was really awkward,” Dawes told the outlet describing the alleged encounter as “cringey.” 

Seventh Accuser

In 2018, the LAPD was investigating events were reported to have taken place in October of 1992 in West Hollywood involving a male adult. However, prosecutors have decided not to file criminal charges in connection.

Old Vic Theater

At least twenty men have come forwards with allegations against Kevin Spacey at their time at the Old Vic Theater. “There are many of us who have a ‘Kevin Spacey story,’” Vic Cavazos wrote. “It seems like you only needed to be a man under 30 for him to feel free to touch us.” 

House of Cards Cast and Crew

The House of Cards cast and crew claimed that the set of the show “ was a toxic environment for young men who had to interact with him at all in the crew, cast, background actors.” In 2020, a private arbitrator ruled that Spacey must pay $31 million to MRC, the studio behind the show, for breach of contract for the allegations.

Anonymous Massage Therapist

An anonymous massage therapist claimed in October 2016 he arrived at a residence for a massage and was greeted by Spacey, who led him to an upstairs room and then locked the door behind them. 

The actor allegedly told the masseur he was having some discomfort in his groin and laid down on the table facing up. Spacey later forced the man’s hand to his testicles, according to the complaint. The massage continued until Spacey allegedly forced the masseur to rub his genitals again. 

Daniel Beal

British Barman Daniel Beal was sitting next to Kevin Spacey on a bench and the actor flashed him and said, “It’s big, isn’t it?” Spacey gave him a Swiss watch afterwards

Ari Behn

Writer Ari Behn accused Kevin Spacey of assault. “After five minutes he said, ‘hey, let’s go out and have a cigarette,” he told BBC. “Then he puts his hand under the table and grabs me by the balls.”

Kris Nixon

Bartender Kris Nixon recalled a moment where Kevin Space assaulted him. “I was sitting on a sofa with my then-sort-of-girlfriend,” Nixon recalled to the BBC. “She got up to get a drink, and Kevin Spacey sat down on the sofa next to me. He asked if that was my girlfriend, then reached over, grabbed my penis, and said, ‘I could fuck you better than her.’

Tony Montana

Tony Montana accused Kevin Spacey of groping. “I went up to order a drink and Kevin came up to me and put his arm around me,” Montana told RadarOnline.com. “He was telling me to come with him, to leave the bar. He put his hand on my crotch forcefully and grabbed my whole package.”

Anonymous Journalist

 An anonymous journalist told Buzzfeed News that Kevin Spacey assaulted him. “He just kept reaching between my legs and, you know, just grabbing my dick,” the journalist said, adding that when he tried to leave, he said Spacey started “screaming at me with fury because I didn’t want to fuck him.” “He was actually saying that I did want to and I was a coward. That was a tactic. It was unbelievable.”

Heather Unruh’s Son

Former news anchor Heather Unruh explained to a press conference in Boston that Kevin Spacey had sexually assaulted her son. He was 18 in a bar in Nantucket, Massachusetts, in July 2016.
