Position in succession line: 1

Prince William, King Charles’ eldest son, is first in line for the throne. Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton had a “planned abdominal surgery” at The London Clinic on January 16, 2024. “The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery,” the statement said. “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”

Royal journalist Elizabeth Holmes told the New York Times how the health of the two family members would impact his duties. “With the Princess of Wales undergoing abdominal surgery and being out of the public eye, I think the spotlight will surely fall to Prince William,” she said.

“The Prince of Wales is currently taking time to support his wife, the Princess of Wales, as she recovers from abdominal surgery at home in Windsor,” Lee Thompson, William and Catherine’s communications secretary, also told the New York Times. “Although the prince has been working privately, he will commence public duties tomorrow.”

Prince George of Wales

Second in line for the British throne is Prince William’s son, King Charles’ eldest grandchild, Prince George. He was born on July 22, 2013, in St. Mary’s Hospital in London. He was given the official title “His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge” at birth. After his parents’ titles changed to the Prince and Princess of Wales, his title changed to “His Royal Highness Prince George of Wales.” He currently attends Lambrook, a preparatory school in Berkshire.

Princess Charlotte of Wales

Princess Charlotte is King Charles’ second grandchild and Prince William and Kate Middleton’s second child. She was born on May 2, 2015, in the same hospital as her brother St. Mary’s Hospital in London. Her full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana in honor of King Charles, Queen Elizabeth, and Prince William’s mother Princess Diana. She also attends Lambrook, a preparatory school in Berkshire with her brothers.

Prince Louis of Wales

Position in succession line: 4

Prince Louis is King Charles’ third grandchild and Prince William and Kate Middleton’s third child, born on April 23, 2018. He is currently fourth in line for the throne. His name was revealed to be Louis Arthur Charles after his great-great-granduncle Louis, Earl Mountbatten of Burma and King Charles. He also goes to Lambrook with his older siblings.

Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex

Position in succession line: 5

Prince Harry is King Charles’ second son and technically fifth in line for the throne, though we doubt he’d be interested considering he stepped down as a senior member of the royal family in 2020. “I can’t imagine a scenario where Harry is called back into this,” journalist Elizabeth Holmes told the New York Times. “Not perhaps because he’s not willing to, but because that relationship is so fractured at this point.”

Prince Archie of Sussex

Position in succession line: 6

Prince Archie is King Charles’ fourth grandchild and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first child, born on May 6, 2019. He is sixth in line for the throne. He was born in Portland Hospital in London and has dual citizenship in the United States and the United Kingdom. Archie’s full name is Archie Harrison.

He currently lives in Montecito, California after his parents relocated to the United States after they stepped down from their Royal duties. After Queen Elizabeth’s death, Archie and Lilibet are considered Prince and Princess. However, they cannot use the His Royal Highness or Her Royal Highness titles.

Princess Lilibet of Sussex

Position in succession line: 7

Princess Lilibet is King Charles’ fifth grandchild and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s second child. She was born in Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara California on June 4, 2021. Born Lilibet Diana, she was named after her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, and her grandmother Diana. She also has dual citizenship in the United States and the United Kingdom.

She met Queen Elizabeth for the first time before her death during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.  The Queen met with Lilibet during a private lunch after The Trooping of Colour on June 3, 2022. Lilibet then celebrated her first birthday party at her parent’s residence at Frogmore Cottage on June 4, 2022.

Prince Andrew, The Duke of York

Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, is the third child and second son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and a younger brother of King Charles III. As such he is eighth in line for the British throne though it would seem unlikely to ever be appointed because of controversy surrounding him.

 In 2019, Andrew stepped back from royal duties over his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, though he’s repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. He faced mounting scrutiny due to his alleged relationship with Epstein.

Princess Beatrice, Mrs. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi

Position in succession line: 9

Princess Beatrice is the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah Ferguson. That makes her the niece of King Charles III and ninth in line for the British throne. Her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, is low-key Italian nobility.

Edoardo’s father, Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi (who was his mother Nikki Williams-Ellis’ first husband), is described as a “Count” by the BBC. The Mozzi name was given the title by King Victor Emmanuel III to all male descendants with the Mozzi surname in 1913.

Miss Sienna Mapelli Mozzi

Position in succession line: 10

Miss Sienna Mapelli Mozzi is Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi’s first daughter, making her the great-niece of King Charles III and tenth in line for the throne.
