After a month filled with tributes after former One Direction member Liam Payne’s death, many fans are wondering who attended the singer’s funeral.
Payne passed away last month in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after falling off the balcony of his hotel. The singer had been in Argentina to attend a Niall Horan concert. Reports indicate Payne was under the influence of multiple drugs when he fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel in Palermo. Hotel personnel contacted emergency services before Payne’s death due to concerns about his life, but Argentinian authorities reported Payne was already dead when they arrived. Three people have been charged in connection with his death.

The funeral took place at St. Mary’s Church in the town of Amersham, northwest of London. It was closed to the public, and only Payne’s family and closest friends attended. Read down below for the recognizable faces we saw at the funeral.
Former One Direction band member Styles attended the funeral of Payne, who was part of the band from 2010-2016. Like the rest of One Direction, he also posted a tribute to Payne after his passing, that partly read, “I am truly devastated by Liam’s passing. His greatest joy was making other people happy, and it was an honour to be alongside him as he did it.” Styles also added, “The years we spent together will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life.”
Former One Direction band member Horan attended the funeral of Payne, who was part of the band from 2010-2016. He and Payne reunited shortly before his death, when Payne attended a Horan concert in Argentina. His statement about Payne’s passing read “We got to live out our wildest dreams together and I will cherish every moment we had forever. The bond and friendship we had doesn’t happen often in a lifetime. I feel so fortunate that I got to see him recently. I sadly didn’t know that after saying goodbye and hugging him that evening, I would be saying goodbye forever. It’s heartbreaking.”
Former One Direction band member Malik attended the funeral of Payne, who was part of the band from 2010-2016. Malik left the band in 2015. Malik’s emotional tribute to Payne read, “I lost a brother when you left us and can’t explain to you what I’d give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly. I will cherish all the memories I have you in my heart forever.
Former One Direction band member Tomlinson attended the funeral of Payne, who was part of the band from 2010-2016. After Payne’s death, Tomlison posted a tribute to his “brother” where he said, “I feel beyond lucky to have had you in my life but I’m really struggling with the idea of saying goodbye,” and added, “I want you to know that if Bear ever needs me I will be the Uncle he needs in his life and tell him stories of how amazing his dad was.”
Cassidy, Payne’s girlfriend at the moment of his death, was one of the first people to arrive at the funeral. Her tribute to Payne, who she was with until a few days before his death, said that her “heart is shattered in ways I can’t put into words,” and added, “Liam, you had the kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit,” and “It feels like I’ve lost the best part of myself. I can’t imagine a day without your laughter and love.”
Cheryl, the mother of Payne’s 7-year-old son Bear, was present at the funeral. She also posted a tribute after Payne’s death, saying, “As I try to navigate this earth-shattering event, and work through my own grief at this indescribably painful time, I’d like to kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being,” adding that “Liam was not only a pop star and celebrity, he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend and a father to our 7-year-old son. A son that now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again.
Cheryl’s Girl Aloud bandmate Kimberly Walsh was also in attendance.
Corden is a longtime fan of One Direction, and was a friend of Payne’s.

Cowell was one of the judges of The X Factor that originally turned One Direction into a group. He was joined by his fiancée, Lauren Silverman. After Payne’s death, Cowell said, “Liam, I am truly devastated. Heartbroken. And I feel empty. And I want you to know how much love and respect I have for you. Every tear I have shed is a memory of you.”
Hurley is a British actor and model who was a friend of Payne and his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy.
Scott, a singer-songwriter who was one of the main collaborators of One Direction, was also present at the funeral.
