The British singer passed away on Wednesday, October 16 after falling from the balcony of his hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31 years old.

The remaining members of One Direction, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, and Zayn Malik released a joint statement on social media about Payne’s death. “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.”
The statement continued, “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.”
Liam Payne is survived by his 7-year-old son Bear, his parents Geoff and Karen Payne, and two sisters, Ruth and Nicola.

“It’s important to have a life outside the band,” Payne said about being part of One Direction but not letting that be his one defining characteristic.
“as everyone does and enjoy time with my friends, not feel bad for not wanting to take a picture,” Payne said while discussing privacy.
“When I think about it, I do start to worry about this whole social media thing. It does make me uncomfortable; kids should be out, living their lives, getting out and enjoying themselves,” Payne reflected on the indiscriminate use of social media.
“I think in the industry we’re in and the type of audience we have, we’re never going to escape the idea of being young. Which I don’t mind myself. I mean, who wants to grow up anyway? I don’t want to grow up,” Payne said.
“I think sometimes I don’t realize how much the pressure gets to me,” Payne admitted as he talked about dealing with the problems of fame.
“cannot be taught, they must be experienced,” Payne said.
“It’s so amazing to hear a crowd of people singing one of your songs. It’s the best feeling,” Payne said about his fans.
“I just imagine if babies were born with mustaches,” Payne shared.
“I think the whole thing, boy band, it’s a little bit of a dirty word,” Payne said. “They say it’s not a good thing to be in a boy band. We want to change that. We want to make the boy band cool. It’s not just about dancing and dressing the same.”
