Since the pandemic, sneakers have gone from practical to posh. Shoppers relied heavily on more relaxed attire while isolating, prompting brands to pay more attention to loungewear and athleisure. Legacy labels like Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel, and Balmain began taking notes from Nike, Adidas, and New Balance, releasing kicks that featured segmented soles and uppers designed with contrasting fabrics like suede and mesh. Even after lockdown, sneakers have maintained its status as the main character. The cool kids aren’t just pairing sneakers with sweats—but also suits, slip dresses, and statement skirts. Sneakers are no longer reserved for casual occasions. We’re even seeing people make a case for them at weddings. While I’m still on the fence about that, the point is that sneakers are the moment—so much so that they dominated the spring/summer 2025 runways, specifically in the menswear category.

One trend that stuck out to me was suede camels. Labels like White Mountaineering, System, and Tod’s unveiled kicks in the warm hue with a soft, fuzzy finish that felt easygoing but refined and sophisticated. I can picture this pairing well with a crisp blue blazer and dark wash jeans or a T-shirt and knee-length denim shorts in the spring. The look is especially cool because it comes amid suede’s timely popularity. Suede bags took center stage throughout fall/winter 2024, so this is a great way to breathe new life into the trend, carrying it into a completely new season and year.

Another trend that caught my eye was chunky silhouettes. Brands like Namesake, Sacai, and Maison Mihara Yasuhiro gave us bulky styles that were contrasted with smart trousers and trench coats, allowing us to rethink business professional. Chunky sneakers add an element of surprise, some excitement, and interest to an outfit. Plus, the extra padding provides extra foot support.

Below, I’m breaking down more sneaker trends from the 2025 runways:
