When I first moved into my apartment, I knew I wanted to have a nice, big mirror. My reasoning didn’t have much to do with being able to take full-body mirror selfies (although don’t get me wrong, I do love a good mirror pic,) but more to do with making the space look and feel bigger than it was.

Over the years, I’ve learned that mirrors are the key to many interior design woes. Hang a mirror opposite a window—where it can reflect natural light—and the room will suddenly appear much brighter than it is. And for bare, white walls that are begging for art to be hung on them, strategically placing a few mirrors can suddenly make those same lackluster walls feel like they’re full of life.

Some might argue that hanging a mirror on a wall doesn’t count as decor; comparing a mirror to a framed Picasso wouldn’t be fair because they’re two completely different categories of furnishing. While there’s no arguing there, I will counter that certain kinds of mirrors can certainly serve as a piece of decor.

If you’re interested in the latter, consider choosing a mirror with a fun, colorful frame or a unique shape. Or, perhaps, choose a mirror with a style that juxtaposes that of the rest of your furniture. (For example, you could opt for an antique-style mirror to add some interest to a room full of contemporary furniture.) Luckily for you, we’ve detailed the 2025 mirror trends for the up and coming year that’ll give you plenty of inspo, regardless of what you’re looking for.
