He was once the highest-paid NFL star in the league; with a star power that would be overshadowed by a sensational murder trial, but OJ Simpson‘s first wife never testified and we’re still scratching our heads today. The former champion running back was married twice.

Simpson was born on July 9, 1947, in San Francisco. He rose to fame as a standout football player at the collegiate level, playing for the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans. Simpson won the Heisman Trophy in 1968, awarded to the most outstanding college football player in the United States.

After college, Simpson was drafted by the Buffalo Bills as the first overall pick in the 1969 NFL Draft. He played as a running back for the Bills from 1969 to 1977, and then for the San Francisco 49ers from 1978 to 1979. Simpson had a highly successful football career, earning numerous accolades and records, including five Pro Bowl appearances.

Following his football career, Simpson ventured into acting and broadcasting. He appeared in films such as The Towering Inferno and The Naked Gun series. He also worked as a sports commentator and analyst for various networks. But in 1994, everything changed when he was accused and subsequently acquitted of murder.

On April 11, 2024, it was revealed that Simpson had died after a battle with prostate cancer at age 76. “On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer,” his family shared in a statement on X. “He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace,” their statement read.
