More than 2 billion people are estimated to watch the coveted Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony, so it’s safe to say some big-name celebrities are set to perform. The Olympic Committee has been tight-lipped about who’s performing, but the internet is doing its best at sleuthing.
For the first time in history, the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony isn’t happening in a stadium. The Opening Ceremony will take place along the Seine River with nearly 100 boats traveling across the body of water carrying 10,000 Olympic athletes. The spectacle is a four-mile parade through the City of Light and more than 3,500 French dancers will be partaking in the celebration.

“For the first time in the ceremony’s history, the athletes will [take part in the artistic show] by passing through the tableaus,” creative director of the Opening and Closing Ceremony Thomas Jolly told Variety. “Right from the start we wanted to overturn the traditional structure that kept the artistic show, the athlete procession and the protocol as three discrete elements. Instead we’ll combine them all into a big fresco.”

Today‘s Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie hinted that Céline Dion has something big in the cards for her huge comeback after her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis and guessed it might be the Olympics. “They were shooting us doing that walk-and-talk,” Kotb said about her tell-all interview on Watch What Happens Live!, “and her manager was off-camera. And I go, ‘So what’s going on, when are you performing again?’ And she goes, ‘Can I tell her?’ And her manager goes, ‘NO!’” Host Andy Cohen guessed that it wasn’t the Olympics, but only time can tell!
Of course with one of the biggest tours in history, Taylor Swift is rumored to perform at the Paris Opening Ceremony. She does have a big break in between her Eras Tour dates in Europe, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if she performed down the Seine.
Dubbed the queen of French pop, Aya Nakamura is rumored to perform during the Olympics Opening Ceremony. When the rumor emerged, a right-wing party reacted strongly and a sign with the words “There’s no way Aya, this is Paris, not the Bamako market” became viral. Aya responded on her Instagram stories, “You can be racist but not deaf… That’s what hurts you! I’m becoming a number 1 state subject in debates… but what do I really owe you? Nothing.”
French pop act Christine and the Queens is rumored to be performing at the Olympics. They performed “Full of Life” at an event promoting the 2024 Olympics in 2023.
Daft Punk is actually confirmed to not perform at the Paris Opening Ceremony, but who knows? Creative director Thomas Jolly said, “It would be very happy for them to be in this ceremony. We cannot not think of Daft Punk when we think at an international exhibition in France.” But later in the interview, he stated with a laugh that “I lied a little about Daft Punk.” However, a rep for the band confirmed to Billboard that they aren’t set to perform.
