Outer Banks Doesn’t Film Where You Think—the Surprising Locations Revealed

South Carolina

The show has filmed extensively in South Carolina, with places like the Hunting Island Lighthouse appearing in Season 1 and Season 4. Shem Creek, meanwhile, has seen the show film many of the waterfront boat scenes there, while the Cameron house is actually a historic house located in South Carolina, called Lowndes Grove.

Outer Banks also filmed at the Edmondston-Alston House in South Carolina, which doubles as Carla Limbrey’s house, at the Admiral’s House, whose interior doubles as Blackstone Manor and at Sandfly Bluff in Charleston as well as in the Charleston Museum.

Barbados

The Pogues haven’t always stayed in the Outer Banks, and when they’ve left, they’ve gone to some pretty interesting places. One of those is Barbados, where they filmed at at Lion Castle Estate, which doubled as Carlos Singh’s estate, at Cattlewash Beach, which is meant to be the Camerons’ Guadalupe Mansion and St. John Parish Church.

Cove Spring House in Barbados is also featured in the show, with all scenes at the Camerons’ Bahamas vacation home filmed there. The show also filmed at the Fairmont Royal Pavilion in Barbados and at Bathsheba Beach, where they filmed all the Poguelandia scenes.

North Carolina

In Season 4, we see a little bit of North Carolina, with the show filming in Crystal Pier and in the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area.

Morocco

Finally, Season 4 takes the Pogues to Morocco and the show actually filmed in Morocco for those scenes. Among the filming locations are Cap Hadid, where they filmed the sand dune scenes, Essaouira, where they filmed the scenes actually set in that city and Ouarzazate, which portrays the fictional city of Agapenta. This is where JJ is killed near the end of Season 4, and where the season ends. The show suggests the Pogues will not be following Groff to Lisbon, though there’s still no indication of whether they’ll actually film in Lisbon or not.
