The Squad
Netflix

They were once the most popular teenagers on the internet. Now, these teenagers are coming out with their story in Bad Influencer: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing and how Piper Rockelle and her mother Tiffany Smith were the ringleaders behind it all.

Piper Rockelle skyrocketed in fame by posting YouTube videos about her life. Shortly later, she recruited teenagers Sophie Fergi, Gavin Magnus, Sawyer Sharbino, Hayden Haas, Corinne Joy, Jentzen Ramirez, Claire Rock Smith and Symonne Harrison, to appear in her videos.

One kidfluencer recalled how Child Protection Services were called into their shared influencer home with Tiffany. “Somebody had reported the things Tiffany was doing, but we didn’t know who it was,” Sophie Fergi revealed in the documentary. “Tiffany pulled Piper and I aside. She was like, ‘Sophie, do you want your best friend’s mom to go to jail?’ And I was like, ‘…No,’ “She claimed Tiffany instructed the two girls before the Child Protection Services visit, “You need to do this correctly, both of you. You guys have to say that I am nothing but nice and nothing but normal.”

In 2020, eleven members sued Rockwell and her mother filed a lawsuit complaining of exploitation and being “frequently subjected to an emotionally, physically and sometimes sexually abusive environment perpetrated by Piper’s mom.” They claimed that Tiffany Smith inflicted ongoing abuse such as shouting explicit comments, repeatedly touching the plaintiffs inappropriately and encouraging them to be “sexy” and “sexually aggressive” in videos. Each teenager sued the mother-daughter duo for $2 million, making the lawsuit add up to $22 million

The lawsuit was settled out of court in 2024, with the 11 teens receiving $1.85 million. One of the family’s purpose in the lawsuit was to ensure that this scenarios never happen again, with one parent saying they “didn’t pursue this lawsuit to change the industry, but to bring awareness that predators can be found in any field.”

Now, Piper’s squad has disassembled and each member is continuing their influencing and content journey by themselves. Take a look at their ages below.
