How Pluto Affects Each of the 12 Houses in Astrology

Life is a never-ending cycle of death and rebirth.

If you’re learning to read your birth chart, looking at the 12 houses of astrology (those little pie charts) will automatically take your knowledge to the next level. Reading about your zodiac sign or your planets is one thing. Reading with your house placement in mind always tells a much deeper story. Let’s discuss what it means when Pluto occupies each house—from both a natal and transit perspective.

Pluto is one of those planets that can take a long time to wrap your head around—and that’s on purpose. Being the farthest planet away from us, it’s only natural we would feel both distant from it and curious about it. And in fact, that’s the very essence of Pluto from a mythological standpoint as well. According to Greek mythology, Pluto represents the god of the Underworld, Hades. The Underworld feels far away from us, and yet, fuels our morbid curiosity as we wonder what’s below, who the captured people are down there, and what it’s all about.

In astrology, Pluto’s representation has a very similar “dark” vibe to it. This planet represents psychological depths, taboo topics, manipulation, power, death, rebirth, transformation, and ultimately, what lies beneath the surface. The goal of Pluto in any situation is to uncover. It wants to know the truth, no matter how ugly, uncouth, or in what questionable way it gets there. A little Pluto influence behind intentions is good. A lot can cause obsession, paranoia, power struggles, and lustful desires.

The way Pluto likes to manage and control is quite similar to Saturn. However, Saturn would opt for a fear-based method, whereas Pluto would opt for a power-based method. Saturn seeks control, Pluto seeks domination. So, you can see how slippery the slope can get if you feed into Pluto too much.

Pluto in the 12 houses of your birth chart, explained

Wherever this planet lands in your chart tells a great deal about how you go about “uncovering” information, where your “dark side” is, where you feel naturally powerful, and also the area you worry that you’re most vulnerable. In that way, it can discuss areas of skepticism or distrust for others.
