Best Ruggable Rugs
“My house is dark like a cave—it gets almost zero natural light despite the windows and LA sunshine. So to lighten the space without sawing a hole into the wall, I chose a bright colored rug to the space that pop of brightness. It worked! I’ve been slowly working on this bonus room, and have plans to turn it into a playroom for my daughter. Right now, it’s my dogs’ room (hence the basket of toys and random bone you see in the photo) and makeshift library, but soon enough we’ll be adding a play kitchen and reading nook to give it a more playful, whimsical feel.
This rug is just perfect for that because of its fairytale-like design, as well as its functionality. Since Ruggable rugs are all washable, it’s OK that my dogs and baby dirty it up. I just throw it in the wash and it’s good as new. I chose a 6×9 dimension rug for this room, which I think fits perfectly. It doesn’t take over the space too much, which some large rugs tend to do. I’ve had this rug for 7 months and love it—such a good investment!” –Gina Vaynshteyn, Editorial Director

“Before installing my Ruggable, I was committing one of the biggest area rug crimes: buying one too small for your space. A good rule of thumb is to buy an area rug that can accommodate at least the front two legs of your seating. My previous area rug was so small lengthwise that it wasn’t touching any of the legs on my couch. Ensuring that my Ruggable rug was an optimal size for my space made all the difference.
I live in a studio-sized bedroom, where a 60″ couch is positioned at the end of my full-size bed. With an 8 x 10 area rug, about 24″ extend from my bed sides, 8″ extends from the sides of my couch, and 24″ extend from the front of my couch. It’s the perfect size for having a soft surface beneath my feet when I get out of bed and watch TV on the couch. Lastly, I debated long and hard, but I went with the tufted rug and cushioned pad because my last Ruggable, which was a standard cushion cowhide rug felt too thin and flat against the hardwood floor. With the cushioned pad, I can definitely feel a difference in thickness and padding.” –Kaili JiMei, Social Media Manager

“I LOVE this rug. I have been on the hunt for a new rug for some time, and nothing really stood out until I saw this one. It is beautiful. It’s called the Owl & Willow Green Flatwoven Rug, and I got the 8×10 size. It complements my vibrant and cozy apartment so well. The design, which includes illustrations of trees and animals, aligns so perfectly will my wallpaper, art, and accent furniture. It makes the room feel bigger and more put together. It’s so chic and feels like me. I love the size and I have been getting nonstop compliments.
My only qualm is that my boyfriend and I couldn’t figure out the pad system when putting it together. Every time we tried to place it, the rug would buckle up and the pad would stick in the wrong places. For now, we put it down without the pad and it seems fine.* It doesn’t move and I don’t feel like I’m going to slip, but we plan to try and properly set it up soon. All in all, I cannot get over how much I love this rug. It’s perfect. It’s soft and not too thick. I love that I can throw it in the washer too.” —Robyn Merrett, Former Style & Beauty Editor
*Editor’s note: I do recommend you buy the rug padding, otherwise your rug will slip and slide.
