In astrology, Saturn understands that without structure, everything falls apart. However, conforming to a new structure is not easy, as it’s often made up of rules, responsibilities, expectations, boundaries, and limitations. From 2025 to 2028, every zodiac sign will learn a new meaning of structure during the Saturn in Aries transit. For many of us, these lessons will be hard fought, but totally worth it in the end.

In astrology, Saturn is the planet of karma, discipline, long-term commitments, and delayed gratification. It represents the bones that hold together the life you’re living, providing you with something solid to depend on. In fact, Capricorn—the sign traditionally ruled by Saturn—literally represents the skeletal system, which is the body’s support structure. When bones break, they can take a long time to mend, which represents the slow and gradual pace that Saturn works to create change in your life. The best things in life take time, patience, and resilience, which is always Saturn’s motto.

It takes Saturn nearly 30 years to complete its orbit around the sun and it spends roughly three years transiting each sign in the zodiac. As it moves through each sign, it presents us with a new set of guidelines to follow and a new range of challenges to go up against. It doles out reality checks focused on different sectors of life and society. Each zodiac sign represents its own “archetype” and cosmic atmosphere, defining the current impact of Saturn and how it manifests in our shared reality.

Aries is the first sign in the zodiac, which represents the beginning of not only a new chapter, but a new story entirely. The themes that will come through during Saturn in Aries are likely to follow you for the next 30 years, as Aries is the seed, the inception, and the first breath. Aries is a primal zodiac sign ruled by Mars, planet of drive, combat, passion, and ambition. It represents the bloody viscera of birth—the chaos of our emergence in this world. Aries strips us to our core, showing us that we are not always refined and polite humans, but wild and savage animals—and the animal kingdom is all about survival. In Aries, Saturn will teach us a new meaning of self-determination, independence, taking initiative, and living life to the fullest. The last thing Aries wants to do is wait, which makes Saturn in Aries a contradiction in and of itself. All Saturn wants you to do is be patient, but Aries tends to want something right now. This transit will show you how to embrace your innate impulses without sacrificing structure and systemic planning.

On May 24, Saturn officially enters Aries at 11:36 p.m. ET. However, Saturn will only be in Aries for a brief time, as it stations retrograde at the first degree of Aries on July 13 before retrograding all the way back into Pisces on September 1. This return to Pisces will give us a refresher on the lessons we’ve been learning in the house of your birth chart ruled by this mutable water sign, as these are not issues you can expect to solve overnight, but over a long period of time that tests your patience and grit. Saturn will later station direct at 25 degrees of Pisces on November 27 and eventually re-enter Aries on February 13, 2026. Until April 12, 2028, Saturn will remain in this cardinal fire sign, emphasizing themes of self-discipline and leadership in the house ruled by Aries in your birth chart.

Saturn enters Aries on May 24 at 11:36 p.m. ET.

If you were born between March 3, 1967 to April 29, 1969, April  7, 1996 to June 9, 1998, and October 25, 1998 to February 28, 1999, then it means your Saturn return is just beginning. The Saturn return is a cosmic rite of passage that occurs when Saturn literally “returns” to the position it was in when you were born. It takes place around ages 30, 60, and 90, with each “return” bringing its own version of a reality check. In a way, it’s your first Saturn return that really ushers you into adulthood, as its karmic impact forces you to get back on track if you’ve fallen off course. However, your Saturn return doesn’t have to feel like a disciplinary transit filled with trials and offenses. if you’ve been working diligently toward your goals, setting necessary boundaries, and refusing to give up when the going gets tough, your Saturn return could be a time of great reward. It could be when delayed gratification finally brings you to a level of satisfaction that made all your hard work feel worthwhile.
