Squid Game S3 Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun in Squid Game S3
No Ju-han/Netflix

Squid Game spoilers ahead. After the shocking ending of season one of Squid Game, winner Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) is seeking to find who’s running these deadly games and how to stop it. The only way to do it is to re-enter the games as a player again.

For those familiar with the show, 456 players enter the games where they would take home 456 billion won when they are left as the sole winner. Each round is comprised of a traditional South Korean school game. The losers pay the ultimate price of death. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuck told The Hollywood Reporter about his decision to use school games, “I feel like the world is gradually moving toward dystopia. There are more and more people who really don’t dream about the future, and that drives people to want to gamble, to really take it all and put it all on the line and hope for the best. And I think these changes have created an environment where the idea of people putting their life on the line playing children’s games is no longer something that is too absurd.”

While many fans might expect the same games to reappear in season 2, some of them are altered. Gi-hun leads the group through the first couple of games but then plans a rebellion that cuts off the rest. Season 3 also brings on new twists and turns for some beloved childhood games. There’s a lot of tension between the players in retaliation, but will he succeed in ending the games once and for all?
