Super Bowl Predictions 2024: We Could See A Replay Of 2013’s Championship

Heading into the divisional round of the 2023-24 NFL playoffs, the NFC’s San Francisco 49ers are predicted to win the Super Bowl LVIII at +175 on DraftKings Sportsbook, helmed by quarterback Brock Purdy and head coach Kyle Shanahan. Their record this year is 12 wins and 5 losses.

Purdy was drafted as the final pick (262nd overall) of the NFL Draft, making him that year’s Mr. Irrelevant. Despite that, the team had confidence in him. “He’s relevant to us,” general manager John Lynch said. “I think it’s a funny thing,” Purdy told ESPN at the time. “If you’re a fan, or even my family, friends and stuff, it’s funny to laugh about it and joke around with it. For me, I’m looking at it as an opportunity. I got my foot in the door, a team believed in me and now I get my opportunity to go and play football. That’s what I want my career to be. That’s what I want my job to be is to be an NFL quarterback and now I have the opportunity to do so. That’s how I’m looking at it.”

He continued: “From the outside looking in, I guess it’s a funny thing and I’ll embrace the role and have some fun with it for sure, but at the end of the day I’m trying to go and help a team win the Super Bowl. That’s where my mindset is at with it.”

Purdy has proven himself to be nothing but relevant this season, however, and he’s among the top contenders for Most Valuable Player in 2023/24, though he has some stiff competition from his teammate, running back Christian McCaffrey. “I think more than anything, it is a team award,” Purdy told ESPN. “That’s how I look at it. And if we were to be able to win it, great. If not, it’s okay. We still have a goal in mind in terms of winning a championship.”

Baltimore Ravens

The AFC’s Baltimore Ravens are also predicted to make the Super Bowl, with an impressive 13 wins and just 4 losses this year. According to Draft Kings Sportsbook, the Ravens are tipped to win the Super Bowl at +290 odds, with quarterback Lamar Jackson and head coach John Harbaugh.

Jackson was born on January 7, 1997, in Pompano Beach, Florida. He played college football at the University of Louisville before being selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Jackson quickly gained attention for his dual-threat abilities as a quarterback, being equally adept at passing and running.

During a segement on the Let’s Go podcast, veteran QB Tom Brady gushed over Jackson. “First time I ever really noticed you was that high school highlight where you put the breaks on the guy and he went flying by,” Brady todl him. “Not that I’ve ever had that experience in my entire life — I don’t even know what that feels like. But now you’re doing that at the highest level.”

Brady continued: “You’re the reason why people watch the NFL, because of guys like you,” Brady said. “You’ve just had an amazing career.”

When did the 49ers, Ravens play each other in a Super Bowl?

The 49ers and Ravens have played each other in the Super Bowl before—Super Bowl XLVII which was held on February 3, 2013, at the Superdome in New Orleans with quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Colin Kaepernick for the Ravens and 49ers respectively.

The halftime show featured a performance by Beyoncé, who was joined by Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. For the first time in Super Bowl history, the game featured two brothers coaching against each other — Jim and John Harbaugh, head coaches of the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens, respectively.

Most notable perhaps, is the partial power outage that affected the game, pausing play for 34 minutes, earning it the nickname the Blackout Bowl. It happened in the third quarter, an hour and 13 minutes into the broadcast. “The power outage was an unfortunate moment in what has been an otherwise shining Super Bowl week for the city of New Orleans,'” Mayor Mitch Landrieau said in a statement at the time. “In the coming days, I expect a full after-action report from all parties involved. For us, the Super Bowl isn’t over until the last visitor leaves town, so we’re focused on continuing to show our visitors a good time.”

The break in play turned out to be advantageous for the 49ers, but not quite enough. The energy had leaked out of the Ravens during the unexpected break, allowing San Francisco to surge to within 2 points, but Baltimore held on for a 34-31 victory. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was named MVP.
