The funny thing about Valentine’s Day is that it’s a totally made up construct. It’s not based on astrology whatsoever, so you could just choose to treat February 14 like any other day if you’d like. But if you’re one of the hopeless romantics who needs to know how their Tarot card reading for Valentine’s Day 2025 will unfold, you’ve come to the right place.

Tarot cards aside, the astrology of Valentine’s Day is interesting, to say the least. Passions may be lowered to a simmer, thanks to the fact that Mars—planet of sex and drive—will be retrograde in Cancer, where it tends to feel defensive and passive aggressive. We’re also in the pre-retrograde shadow of Venus retrograde, which technically won’t begin until March 1. However, this pre-shadow is spinning webs of confusion and reevaluation that could show up later in our love lives. Plus, you’ll be coming away from a highly volatile full moon in Leo on February 12, which could have led to surprising breakthroughs, sudden changes, and unexpected walk outs. In other words, you won’t know how your Valentine’s Day is really gonna go until Valentine’s Day. The jury is still out.

On Valentine’s Day, the moon will be moving through Virgo, which may not be the sexiest, but it is a beautiful energy for practical acts of service and self-care. This moon will be ruled by Mercury in Pisces, where the communication planet is “detriment,” leading to some potentially awkward misunderstandings and misalignments. Opposing dreamy Neptune, the moon could also reveal that what you’ve been idealizing or feeling paranoid about isn’t holding up to reality.

Don’t allow your emotions to cloud your judgement, because everything is happening as it should. On February 14, the moon will also be moving into a conjunction with the South Node in Virgo for the first time in 2025, carrying the weight of fated turning points that help us shed the past. Regardless of what happens, you should celebrate Valentine’s Day by doing something interesting and revolutionary, as the moon will also form a trine with innovative Uranus.
