The Kid Laroi (2024 – present)
Rumors swirled of Tate McRae dating The Kid Laroi when fans spotted she was wearing a boy’s shirt in one of her Instagram posts. They questioned if the shirt was really hers, and it turned out to be The Kid Laroi’s. The two kept it very low-key in the first couple months of dating when they were spotted holding hands at events like the 2024 NHL All-Star Game and the Super Bowl.
The Kid Laroi made it publicly official when he was performing in Dublin in April 2024. “I need everybody in here to sing this as loud as they can because my girlfriend’s here tonight, and I don’t want to look lame,” he said as she was sitting backstage. The two have appeared together on red carpets such as the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, and with Tate McRae’s album coming out, she took the opportunity to release a duet with her boyfriend.
“I feel like the person you are in a relationship and the person you are in the studio as an artist are very different,” she told Rolling Stone. “We were a little nervous singing in front of each other.”
She elaborated more in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe saying that she “wouldn’t look at him” while they sang together because she wasn’t used to their new dynamic as collaborators, explaining, “It’s like a mental thing where I just feel like he’s never heard me sing, and I like to pretend that he doesn’t know I’m a singer, but he does obviously know I’m a singer.”
