Taylor Swift, Biden, Super Bowl theory
So what is Taylor Swift, Biden, and Super Bowl theory? Calling it a theory without the word “absurd conspiracy” to preface it would be giving it too much credit, but basically some right-wingers think the National Football League is rigging games so that the Chiefs win, therefore keeping Travis Kelce’s (allegedly, fake, they say) relationship with Taylor Swift in the spotlight. Thereby using her to endorse Biden.
“I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month,” Vivek Ramaswamy, failed 2024 presidential candidate who has spread conspiracy theories about the January 6 insurrection and the legitimacy of the 2020 election, tweeted on January 30. “And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall. Just some wild speculation over here, let’s see how it ages over the next 8 months.”
Jack Posobiec, a far-right conspiracy theorist, claimed that the Democratic Party and other powers are “gearing up for an operation to use Taylor Swift in the election against” Donald Trump. A story published by The New York Times noted that Biden would like Swift’s endorsement, which added fuel to the fire.
“Taylor Swift is an op,” Benny Johnson, a right-wing media personality with millions of followers tweeted. “It’s all fake. You’re being played.”
“The Democrats’ Taylor Swift election interference psyop is happening in the open,” added Laura Loomer, a self-described Islamophobe who has been embraced by Trump. “It’s not a coincidence that current and former Biden admin officials are propping up Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. They are going to use Taylor Swift as the poster child for their pro-abortion GOTV Campaign.”
Democrats aren’t oblivious to her pulling power, however. “Taylor Swift stands tall and unique,” California governor Gavin Newsom told the Times in September. “What she was able to accomplish just in getting young people activated to consider that they have a voice and that they should have a choice in the next election, I think, is profoundly powerful.”
