Taylor Swift’s mom is Andrea Swift (née Finlay). Andrea is a former marketing manager at an advertising agency. She was born on January 10, 1958, in Pennsylvania, United States. She attended Memorial High School in Houston, Texas, and graduated from the University of Houston.
Andrea’s mother, Marjorie Moehlenkamp, and Taylor’s maternal grandmother was an opera singer. Taylor wrote her 2020 song, “Marjorie,” from her album, Evermore, after her grandmother. Taylor’s 2008 song, “The Best Day,” from her album, Fearless, is about Andrea and her favorite childhood moments with her. Taylor also wrote her 2019 song, “Soon You’ll Get Better,” about Andrea. The song is about Andrea’s battle with cancer.
Andrea first revealed Andrea’s diagnosis with cancer in 2015. “Usually when things happen to me, I process them and then write music about how I feel, and you hear it much later. This is something my family and I thought you should know about now,” she wrote in a Tumblr post at the time. She continued, “She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they’ve got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle… Or peace of mind in knowing that they’re healthy and there’s nothing to worry about.”
She revealed in an essay for Elle in 2019 that her mother’s cancer had returned. “It’s taught me that there are real problems and then there’s everything else,” she wrote. “My mom’s cancer is a real problem. I used to be so anxious about daily ups and downs. I give all of my worry, stress, and prayers to real problems now.”
In an interview with Variety in 2020, Taylor also revealed that her mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which was found as she was undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. “And the symptoms of what a person goes through when they have a brain tumor is nothing like what we’ve ever been through with her cancer before,” she said. “So it’s just been a really hard time for us as a family.”
