What does “The Fire Inside” by Becky G mean? Songwriting legend Diane Warren talked to ASCAP about the special double meaning of the song. “One is obviously the fire inside you get from Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. You eat them, you get a fire inside. But what the song is about is passion, and it’s about that thing that keeps you going, that thing that makes your dreams come true, that literally burns down obstacles. When there’s an obstacle in front of you and you have that fire, it’s going to burn it down and nobody’s going to stop you.

She continued, “And when I was writing this song for the movie, I’m writing it and going, “God, I’m kind of relating to everything I’m writing. I’m kind of writing about myself, and I’m writing for anybody who has that passion inside them.” And so many of my friends have told me that this is the song they’re waking up to now, that this is their wake up song in there that gets them going every day.”

“It’s such the American dream,” Warren also affirmed to Deadline. “When I wrote the song, it was kind of like my anthem too. The fire inside is a double entendre.” She was also committed to having Latin elements across the song. “It was natural, intrinsic to the song,” Warren said. “I wrote it with that kind of beat.”

What is Flamin’ Hot about?

Flamin’ Hot tells the story of Richard Montañez, the son of a Mexican immigrant, who was a janitor at Frito Lay when he came up with the idea for the chips Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. His creation, inspired by the flavours of his community, revitalises Frito-Lay and disrupts the food industry.

In her directorial debut, Eva Longoria heavily cherished the story of Richard Montañez. “I read his story and I was like, ‘I’m Richard Montañez.’ I’ve been told ideas don’t come from people like you. I’ve been told women shouldn’t direct. I’ve been told many nos.”

She wanted to get the story right from the get-go and with the upmost respect. “It was at the forefront of my mind, going, ‘I cannot fail, I cannot fail these communities depending on the success of this movie,'” says Longoria. “Because we don’t get a lot of bites at the apple. If my movie fails, people can say, ‘Oh, female filmmakers don’t really work’. Or, ‘Oh, we tried to do a Latino story that one time and nobody showed up. It didn’t work.'”

Longoria championed the project and brought on an entire cast and crew of Latinos. “I was so proud because we didn’t compromise talent because we did a diverse hire. It made the project better,” she said. “We brought our ancestors in the room with us and we were like, ‘Okay, we’re all here, all thousand of us.'”
