Since the Super Bowl takes place in Las Vegas and Usher has played his residency there recently, we can gather some hints about the songs he’ll perform at the Super Bowl. Here is his residency’s setlist:

1. My Way

Usher’s “My Road To Halftime” playlist has a couple of his songs as well as songs that inspire him for the Super Bowl performance. Listed songs include “Think of You,” “U Don’t Have to Call,” “U Got It Bad,” and “You Make Me Wanna…” “Yeah! (feat. Lil Jon & Ludacris),” “My Boo,” “No Limit (feat. Young Thug), and “My Way.”

Usher’s newest album “Coming Home” drops days before the Super Bowl, so it’s likely he’ll perform a single from it. He told Good Morning America that his kids would be helping choose songs for the 13-minute set.

“I think I just start it by making certain that — my kids approved, I got my portion of it from, for the, you know, the 30 and up, I got them,” the R&B legend revealed.

“But for my young’uns, Cinco and Naviyd, I’m taking notes,” he said, referring to his teenage sons, whom he shares with ex-wife Tameka Foster. “They’ve been like taking conference calls with my entire team, giving notes.”

Who are the surprise guests at Usher’s Halftime Show?

Usher’s Super Bowl guests for the Halftime show are Alicia Keys, H.E.R., will.i.am, Lil’ Jon, and Ludacris.

Alicia Keys was the first guest who performed “Ain’t Got You” and “My Boo.” H.E.R. played a guitar solo for “U Got It Bad.” will.i.am performed “OMG” with Usher. Lil’ Jon surprised guests with “Turn Down For What” and transitioned to “Yeah!” with Ludacris.

When news first dropped of Usher headlining the Super Bowl, he entirely avoided the question of sharing the stage. “Well, one thing I can say is I’ve, you know, collaborated with a lot of incredible artists throughout the years,” he told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “If anything, I like the socially engaged the world, you know what I’m saying? I like to hear who you think, you know, would would be a great guest, great guest to complement this.” 

Lowe deflected the question and Usher replied, “There’ll be many more Sundays to talk about this leading up to the Grand Sunday of all. Yeah. And I’m so happy that we were able to, you know, launch it today.”

Well, he finally opened up about what to expect at the Super Bowl in an interview with Good Morning America’s Kelley L. Carter. “I think about what our country has kind of represented for Black artists, you know, having to at some point go through kitchens to even be able to perform for an audience, but they had to leave back through that same door, fear for their lives as they went to the next state to do the same thing. He added, “So I’m coming through the front door with this one.”

How did Usher react to headlining the Super Bowl halftime?

The R&B legend was ecstatic to tell the world of his headlining spot at the Super Bowl Halftime Show. “As of August, I knew. And I had to keep it a secret up until the grand unveiling for the world,” Usher told CBS News. “And I couldn’t let my kids know. So, like, any kind of documents I’m receiving, you know, we had, like, a code word that we would only talk on the telephone to let it be known that we were discussing ‘Utah,’ you know?” Utah was the code word for the Super Bowl.

“You don’t get a chance to surprise your kids that often anymore. It’s like, there’s no fantasy moments,” he said. Usher’s kids advised him “to pray about” playing the Super Bowl in the past.

“You know, everybody says they want to win a Grammy, or they want to win an Oscar, or a Tony, or an Emmy. A Super Bowl is something that everybody wants to play,” he said. “And here it is. It happened.”
