Wallpaper is one of the most underrated aspects of home decor. It’s like the cherry on top of a room— no, you don’t necessarily need it, but it’ll add the perfect, finishing touch to any space.

You see, I discovered peel and stick wallpaper last year, and it drastically changed the entire mood of my room (and for the better). I had bare, white walls, and because I don’t have too many pieces of artwork hanging in my space, my living room seemed increasingly bleaker each time I looked at it. It was officially time to give my apartment a glow-up, and knew I had to start by addressing the sterile vibe of my living room. Eventually, I decided to experiment with wallpapers and stumbled on a print that I knew I had to get my hands on. And once I put it on my walls, my space looked considerably better.

Ever since, I’ve casually perused wallpaper prints here and there. Just like there are trends with fashion and furniture, there are also hot designs making waves in the wallpaper space. In order to get some insight on upcoming trends for next year, I spoke with Aino Heinäsuo, Head of Design at Redecor, on all things wallpaper-related.

“Wallpaper is perfect for creating a statement feature wall,” she says, adding that it “infuses personality into main social areas like the living room.” “Surprisingly, bathrooms also benefit from wallpaper. In small powder rooms, it can create a striking jewel-box effect, while in larger master baths, it adds an element of elegance,” she adds.

When considering the durability and maintenance of different wallpaper types, Heinäsuo shared her recommendations. “Vinyl wallpapers are perfect for high-traffic areas like hallways, kitchens, and bathrooms due to their durability, washability, and ease of maintenance,” she says. “Textured or fabric wallpapers, while visually striking, are more delicate and require careful handling, making them better suited for low-traffic spaces such as bedrooms or formal living rooms where wear and tear are minimal.”

Keeping all of that important info in mind, here are the current and upcoming trends projected to dominate the wallpaper space.
