What kind of cancer does King Charles have?
What kind of cancer does King Charles have? There are few details about exactly what kind of cancer the king has, but according to Buckingham Palace, it is not prostate cancer. While receiving treatment for an enlarged prostate, “a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the royal statement said.
“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”
The statement continued: “The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible. His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”
CBS News royal contributor Julian Payne, who served as communications director for then-Prince Charles, told CBS Mornings at the time of King Charles’ diagnosis that the royal has generally enjoyed “very robust health” throughout his life. “So, this will be something he’s not used to,” Payne said. “I think he will be stoic about it. I think he will do what the doctors are asking him to do, and I think his eye will be firmly focused on getting back to the job and getting back to full fitness.”
Payne also explained that, by Buckingham Palace noting in their statement that the king planned to continue with his royal work, “what they are actually telling you is that he is in good shape, and that role as head of state is not being impeded in any way.” He continued, “If it was the case that something more serious was just around the corner, they absolutely would not be giving you that level of operational detail.”
Rishi Sunak, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, also told BBC at the time of King Charles’ announcement that his cancer was “caught early.” He also stated that he was “shocked and sad” by the news and is in “regular contact” with the monarch. “He’ll just be in our thoughts and our prayers – many families around the country listening to this will have been touched by the same thing and they know what it means to everyone.” “He’ll just be in our thoughts and our prayers – many families around the country listening to this will have been touched by the same thing and they know what it means to everyone,” Sunak said.
