Buckingham Palace announced he was diagnosed after receiving treatment for an enlarged prostate, so it’s natural to wonder what kind of cancer King Charles has. The British monarch was admitted to hospital on Friday, January 25, 2024, for a “corrective procedure”, and this news encouraged a lot of men to investigate the common health issue for themselves.

Buckingham Palace announced on January 18 20224 that the King would undergo treatment for a benign condition and provided details in the hopes that it would raise awareness. That’s proven an effective strategy, as searches for “enlarged prostate” increased by 266 percent. The NHS also said there were 16,410 visits to the website that day compared to 1,414 the previous day. A statement from Buckingham Palace said the King was “delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness”. He also thanked those who had “sent their good wishes”.

It came amid his daughter-in-law’s own health hurdle. Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, underwent surgery as well, though it appears from her recovery time in hospital that it’s a little more serious. Details of her condition were not disclosed, only that it was specified as abdominal surgery.

Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton had a “planned abdominal surgery” at The London Clinic on January 16, 2024. “The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery,” the statement said. “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.” With all that said, here’s what we know about what kind of cancer King Charles has.
