Here’s Where Aaron & Jordan Rodgers Stand Amid New Documentary on the Controversial QB

2016: The rift is first discussed

During his hometown date during JoJo Fletcher’s season of The Bachelorette, Jordan Rodgers introduced his now wife to his older brother Luke and his parents, with Luke saying at the time “It pains both of us, like, not to have that relationship [with Aaron] — we miss our brother.” There were no details about what caused the rift or why the relationship was estranged, and no details had surfaced about the family being estranged before it was mentioned on The Bachelorette.

Jordan had previously explained to JoJo that, “My middle brother won’t be there, Aaron. Like I said, I have a great relationship with my brother Luke. Me and Aaron don’t really have that much of a relationship. It’s just kind of the way he’s chosen to do life and I’ve chosen to stay close with my family and my parents and my brother,” adding that, “Yeah, it’s not ideal and I love him and I can’t imagine what it’s like to be in his shoes and have the pressure he has, the demands from people that he has. Don’t have hard feelings against him, it’s just how things go right now.”

Aaron wasn’t really happy with his brother talking about their relationship in public, telling MISN 12 News in July of 2016 that he thought it was “a little inappropriate [for Jordan] to talk publicly about some family matters, so I’m just … I’m not going to speak on those things, but I wish him well in the competition.”

2017: Aaron Rodgers breaks up with Olivia Munn

According to Us Magazine Rodgers’ family had concerns about his relationship with Olivia Munn, which came to an end in April of 2017. However, the NFL star did not attempt a reconciliation with his family after breaking up with the actress. “When he got together with Olivia Munn, his family told him they didn’t trust her and thought she wasn’t with him for the right reasons. That made him furious and he ended up choosing Olivia over his family,” a source told the outlet.

2018: Munn Defends Rodgers

A year after the breakup, Olivia Munn came to Aaron Rodgers’s defense while discussing their relationship and his family on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy. “I met the parents only a couple times and before he and I started dating, he hadn’t spoken to the parents and one bother for, like, eight months,” she told Andy Cohen. “At the end of the day, there’s a lot of complications. I don’t think either side of the road is clean. But I do think it’s not OK when you try to stand on someone’s shoulders and then throw dirt in their face, which is what I think they did with him.”

Jordan Rodgers quickly hit back, telling Us Weekly, “I’ll say I have no idea why she’s still talking about an ex. I don’t get that.”

2018: Luke and Jordan Rodgers slam Aaron

Things took a turn for the worse at the end of 2018 after Aaron Rodgers posted a video talking about the California wildfires, including how many people had been affected near his hometown. His brother Jordan took offense to his words, Rting it and saying, “PLEASE DONATE, SPREAD AWARENESS & SEND LOVE. But when your Mom is home alone during the fires, car packed ready to evacuate, & you miss the fundamental first step of compassion; calling your parents to make sure they are safe…. Everything else just feels like an act,” with brother Luke adding “Smells like cowardice this morning….”

2022: Aaron is invited to Jordan’s wedding, but doesn’t show up

After postponing their wedding due to the pandemic, Jordan Rodgers and JoJo Fletcher finally tied the knot in May 2022 with Rodgers’s entire family in attendance, except for brother Aaron. “It’s a sad situation for the family and especially for Jordan who really does love his brother,” a source told Us Weekly at the time. “Aaron missed out on his big day and that’s something Jordan’s never going to forget. Jordan invited his entire family, including Aaron, even knowing he most likely wouldn’t attend since they’ve been distant for a long time now.”

2022: Luke Rodgers names first son after brother Jordan

Luke Rodgers’s first son is born, with his name revealed to be Jack Jordan Rodgers, his middle name in honor of his uncle Jordan. “Jack we choose your name because it means God is gracious,” Luke wrote via Instagram days after becoming a parent. “Your middle name is for @jrodgers11 and we can only pray you grow up to be as generous, kind, loyal, (and tan) and an amazing man of character as your uncle Jordan.”

Aaron Rodgers spoke on the rift with his family on August 2022 while on the he said on the Aubrey Marcus Podcast, saying, “I do believe in healing and I believe in the possibility of reconciliation at some point, but it’s a different journey for all of us. And to judge on the outside about what should be, or what it should look like, or who’s wrong and who’s right, it’s just a game I’ve never wanted to play and still don’t want to play.”

2024: Aaron Rodgers criticizes brother Jordan and The Bachelorette

Rodgers finally addressed his falling out with his brother on episode two of Aaron Rodgers: Enigma. “It wasn’t like I was super duper close with everybody in the family. I was close with my little brother,” he explained, giving context to the family issues for the first time. “But in actuality, it goes back to stuff from high school that kind of made me feel distant. Stuff in college, stuff post-college.” The QB, however, said he always felt it was best not to talk about the issues publicly. That, however, all changed when brother Jordan signed up for The Bachelorette.

“And what do they do? They go on a bulls— show and leave two empty chairs.” The chairs were supposed to represent Aaron Rodgers and then-girlfriend Olivia Munn. “They all agreed this was a good thing to do, to leave two empty chairs at a stupid dating show that my brother just went on to get famous — his words, not mine. That he ended up winning. But a dinner that was during the season, I was never asked to go to. Not that I would’ve gone,” Aaron Rodgers said.

Despite all of that, the door didn’t seem to be closed on reconciliation, with the final word from Aaron Rodgers being, “People ask me, ‘Is there hope for reconciliation?’ I say, ‘Yeah of course. Of course. I don’t want them to fail, to struggle, to have any strife or issues. I don’t wish any ill will on them at all. It’s more like this — we’re just different steps on a timeline of our own journeys.”
