Days before Liam Payne’s death, his ex-fiancé Maya Henry made several TikToks about his abusive behavior before and after their relationship. The two dated on and off from 2018 to 2022, but Henry alleged that Payne still contacted her leading up to his death.
Liam Payne died after falling off a third-floor story hotel room balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel on October 16, 2024. Alberto Crescenti, Buenos Aires emergency services chief, told La Nación that the One Direction member suffered “serious injuries” that were untreatable once responders arrived at the scene. “Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life,” he explained. Two days before his death, Maya Henry issued a cease and desist against her ex after she alleged that he wouldn’t stop contacting her.

He talked to KISS FM U.K. about how paparazzi would follow them around and she would calm him down. “The difference is with her, she’s so relaxed that it helps me relax in a situation, rather than being somewhere, and talk about who is watching and what’s going on. People are going to watch whatever. What am I supposed to do? I can’t do anything about it now. It’s too late for that. It’s just been quite nice and just going out. I’ve managed to explore a lot more of London than I ever have actually my life, which has been quite fun. My life has been quite normal recently, which has been a break.”

In an appearance in The Diary Of a CEO podcast, Liam talked about how he was great being single. “I feel like more than anything at this point, I’m more disappointed in myself that I keep on hurting people. That annoys me. I’ve just not been very good at relationships,” he said. “And I know what my pattern of things is with relationships, I feel at this point. I’m just not very good at them so I just need to work on myself before I put myself on to somebody else. And I feel like that’s where I got to in my last relationship.”

May 2022: Liam Payne & Maya Henry split a 2nd time
A rep for Liam Payne confirmed to People and Us Weekly that he and Maya Henry had split. The couple never addressed the split, but Maya commented on a post of a fan-posted photo of Payne with another woman, writing, “I love all of the fans so much but please stop sending me these pictures of my fiancé wrapped around another woman. This is not me and it’s hard enough knowing this has happened without seeing it. Enough now.”

Maya Henry released her first book Looking Forward which is about a girl from a small town who falls in love with a boy who became famous from a singing competition. When People asked if the character was based on Liam Payne, she said, “I drew inspiration [from my real life], and I wanted to include a scene like that in the book because while not everyone dates a pop star, I feel like everyone dates someone like Oliver. feel like it was just important for women to be seen in that way, and can relate and not feel like they’re alone in whatever they’re going through.”
One eerie moment of the book includes the main pop star Oliver threatening to jump off a balcony. “‘What the f**k do you think I’m doing?’ he bellows, loud enough for half the town to hear. ‘I’m going to f**king kill myself ok! I want to die!'” an excerpt reads.

October 7, 2024: Maya Henry accuses Liam Henry of harassment
Maya Henry went on TikTok to talk about Liam’s actions after they broke up. “Ever since we broke up, he messages me, will blow up my phone, not only from his phone number, it’s always from different phone numbers too, so I never know where it’s gonna come from,” she alleged on the video sharing app. “He’ll create new iCloud accounts to iMessage me — it’s always a damn new iCloud account. Every time I see one pop up on my phone I’m like, ‘Here we f—– go again.’”
In another TikTok, she alleged that the One Direction member who threw him against a wall was Zayn Malik.

October 14, 2024: Maya Henry recounts how Liam would threaten her with death
Maya Henry went on The Internet Is Dead podcast to talk about Liam Payne’s abuse. She explained how she would get messages that were a variation of “Oh, I’m not well,” and adding that “He would always play with death and be like, ‘Well, I’m going to die. I’m not doing well.’”
“There was one time I tried to get him help and then he was not taking it,” Henry continued, adding that the cycle kept repeating. “He would text my mom, ‘I’m not doing well, have Maya contact me,’ because I wouldn’t respond.” He texted her mother, “I’m not going to be around much longer.”
She talked about how she needed to put up boundaries. “I don’t play with death. If you say this, I’m going to try and help you no matter what you’ve done. I think he took advantage of my family’s kindness.” Payne’s ex also made it clear the singer’s mental health was concerning, saying he’d “gotten so much worse.” She didn’t go into details, likely because of the fact that she’d already taken legal action, but did recall Payne saying: ‘I’m so sorry for everything I’ve done. I can’t live with myself,’ but then is continuing to try and traumatize me.”

On October 14, 2024, Maya Henry ordered a cease and desist against her ex. “Maya Henry issued a cease and desist last week to Liam Payne following the emergence of new and concerning information, ” a statement read to Daily Mail. “She has retained attorneys Marco Crawford and Daniel Cerna to represent her. At this time, that is her only comment on the matter.”
