Festival season is well underway, and Lollapalooza is the summer music event we can’t wait for. With this year’s Lollapalooza lineup and fashion trends, we’re already inspired to ring in the summer season and get our festival outfit planning underway. With Chicago’s unpredictable summer weather, figuring out what to wear to Lollapalooza is no easy feat. From bohemian to edgy, we tapped fashion stylists to learn all about what to expect from festival goers this year.

What to Wear to Lollapalooza at a Glance

“At Lollapalooza this year, we’ll see a mix of trends like cute cowboy boots with denim shorts, edgy streetwear with leather and bold accessories, Y2K-inspired looks, and lots of vintage,” says celebrity stylist Samantha Brown. With that said, weather can play a major role in what to wear to Lollapalooza. Since heat, humidity, and potential rain are all possibilities, looking at the forecast is an essential part of festival outfit planning for the Chicago-based music festival.

What to Know About Chicago—Weather-Wise for Your Wardrobe

Lollapalooza is in the middle of summer in Chicago, and the weather can be variable, says Brown. “Temperatures often reach the high 80s and 90s, so it’s important to dress in breathable, lightweight fabrics,” she notes. Humidity is also a factor in Chicago summers—and the temperature usually drops a bit in the evenings, so Brown recommends wearing light layers that will help you stay comfortable regardless of the weather fluctuations throughout the day.

Rain is also a possibility, so be sure to look at the weather forecast ahead of the festival and pack proper shoes that can withstand wet environments. Stylish rainwear, such as the Free People Rain Drop Packable Poncho, can also come in clutch in rainy festival weather.

How to Dress for Lollapalooza, According to Stylists

“When it comes to dressing for a hot, humid festival like Lollapalooza, my number one piece of advice is to focus on fabric,” says fashion stylist Nena Evans. “Prioritize natural, breathable materials like cotton and linen—anything that allows your body to breathe and helps regulate your temperature throughout the day.” Since Lollapalooza can go from blazing sun to cooler temps in the evenings, Evans says choosing the right fabric can “make a big difference in staying comfortable from day to night.”

In addition to fabric, outfit choice can also impact comfort when at a festival all day long. “I’m loving the flowy, billowy silhouettes that are trending right now,” says Evans. “Not only are they stylish and effortless, but they also allow for airflow, making them super practical in the heat.” When putting together Lollapalooza outfits, she says to look for airy boho tops with lace or texture paired with a more structured piece like longer denim shorts. “That mix of feminine and masculine creates a cool contrast that feels polished without trying too hard—perfect for a music festival vibe,” she adds.

Brown also says to consider the aesthetic you’re aiming for, which can help set the tone for an overall outfit and personal expression throughout the festival. “Knowing which artists you’re most excited to see can help align your style with the vibe of those performances—whether it’s edgy, bohemian, streetwear-inspired, or something more eclectic,” she notes. “These factors not only guide outfit choices but also ensure comfort, confidence, and individuality in a high-energy environment like Lollapalooza.”
