Festival season is here, and if there’s one thing that’s nearly as exciting as seeing your favorite performers live, it’s curating your outfits for the occasion. Stagecoach’s upcoming festival poses the perfect opportunity to lean into Western fashion—especially since it takes place right in the desert.

Stagecoach is a country music festival held annually in Indio, California, at the Empire Polo Club, featuring top country music stars, alongside up-and-coming artists. But the festival isn’t just about music—attendees can also enjoy a range of activities like saloon-inspired lounges, custom boot booths, brand activations, and more. To make the most of your experience, you’ll want to put together several outfits that effortlessly blend into that country vibe you’ll see throughout the weekend.

Hot Tip: You Can Stop at One of the Biggest Malls in California on your way to Indio

Our Editorial Director was recently able to scope out the Desert Hills Premium Outlets—the largest luxury outlet destination in California—to see what kinds of offerings were available to roadtrippers and festival-goers. “If you’re really just at a fashion loss, or you change your mind last-minute, you do have options in the desert,” Gina Vaynshteyn says. “Desert Hills has the biggest selection of brands, including designers like Loewe, Saint Laurent, Gucci, Chloe, Reformation, and more. Plus bargain goodies like Neiman Marcus Last Call. What I personally love about this outlet experience is that it felt incredibly luxe.” Desert Hills Premium Outlets are about 45 minutes away from Indio, and 30 if you’re staying in Palm Springs.

How is Dressing for Stagecoach Different From Coachella?

Although both Stagecoach and Coachella are held at the same location, the styles and trends at each festival tend to differ. While Coachella may incorporate some Western-inspired elements, Stagecoach fully embraces them, with cowboy hats, boots, fringe tops, and flowy skirts taking center stage. Expect to see a sea of items leaning into cowboy culture (with a festival twist) for both men’s and women’s outfits. Ariat is the “official” boot of Stagecoach, so you may come across several of the brand’s shoe styles, too.

There’s a ton to consider when curating your Stagecoach outfits—and the current styles and trends are certainly part of that. “In 2025, expect to see plenty of fringe, denim-on-denim, and retro nods like prairie dresses or 70s-inspired prints,” says Peter Martinez, co-founder and fashion stylist/designer at Leather Skin Shop. “Western wear has become more experimental, so you’ll also spot sheer layers, metallic fabrics, and pops of neon mixed with traditional textures. Matching sets, oversized sunglasses, and stacked jewelry continue to dominate.”

That’s not all—according to Dawn Del Russo, fashion and beauty expert, you can expect to see a ton of colored suede cowboy boots at Stagecoach this year. “Think pinks, oranges, and teals. Zebra and animal prints are on the rise and will pair up with western wear for a unique twist. Knit sheer dresses with low-slung belts are the style this season. This will be the festival to wear micro shorts with boot and a cropped or flowy top.”

What to Know About Indio, CA Weather for Wardrobe Planning

For those who’ve never traveled to Indio, CA, it’s important to prepare for hot and dry conditions—and dress accordingly. During the end of April, when Stagecoach takes place, attendees can expect daytime temperatures to surpass 90°F. Be sure to bring lightweight, breathable clothing, plenty of sunscreen, and hats for sun protection. As temperatures tend to dip in the evening, festival-goers may want to have a light cover-up, like a long-sleeve shirt, to stay comfortable once the sun sets. The festival will have lockers for rent to store any additional clothing you don’t want to carry throughout the day.

“Staying comfortable at Stagecoach means tackling heat and dust head-on,” shared Peter Martinez. “Choose breathable materials that can manage both effectively. Cotton, linen, mesh, and crochet are the best options. I highly recommend looking for lightweight denim, suede fringe, and broken-in leather that won’t feel stiff.” Martinez also suggests looking for statement pieces like wide-brim hats, embroidered tops, and bold belts that define the western look without sacrificing comfort. “Also, your footwear should be supportive. Low-heeled cowboy boots or fashion-forward western booties are both practical and stylish.”

What Not to Wear to Stagecoach

Since Stagecoach takes place in the desert, you should plan to avoid bringing heavy clothing or accessories that will weigh you down, such as thick jackets, chunky jewelry, or giant bags. It’s also advised to avoid shoes that may cause blisters or discomfort, like heels, sandals or styles that have yet to be broken in. Instead, opt for sneakers, cowboy boots or anything you can stand in for hours on end. Since the sun will likely be glaring throughout the festival, it’s best to avoid wearing dark-colored clothing, as it absorbs heat and will leave you feeling even hotter. Stick to light-colored, sweat-wicking fabrics that will reflect the sun and keep you cool.

“Avoid anything too tight, heavy, or synthetic,” suggests Martinez. “Vinyl or thick polyester traps heat and causes discomfort fast. Skip heels or flimsy sandals, as you will walk on dirt and grass all day. Also, avoid over-accessorizing. Carrying a large purse or piling on jewelry becomes a hassle in the heat. The goal is to strike a balance between standout style and practical choices. Stagecoach is a fashion-forward festival, but it’s also long, hot, and dusty. Wear what turns heads and keeps you going.”
