Outwit, Outplay, Outlast… and relax? Every Survivor super fan knows that The White Lotus creator Mike White competed in the iconic CBS reality show. And every Survivor fan should also know that he includes Survivor cameos any chance he gets.
White starred in Season 37 David v. Goliath, where tribes were separated by those who were the underdogs and those who were overachievers. Mike White started out on the Goliath tribe as he had a behemoth of a career as appeared on The Amazing Race (twice) and also wrote and starred in movies like School of Rock and Dawson’s Creek. White ended up as the runner-up for the season after a 7-3-0 vote where Nick Wilson was declared the winner.

Nevertheless, White always gushes over the reality show (he’s also tight with host Jeff Probst), and everyone knows the bond between fellow castaways on a season of Survivor goes unbroken even years after the season has ended. “Part of my job and my way of life is studying people and analyzing motivation and character,” White told The New Yorker about how Survivor still impacts him today. “I still feel like, even on the most contrived reality show, the people are human and they’re more interesting than some of the most well-scripted drama. And for me, as a writer of drama, I aspire to do what reality television already does. To create characters that are surprising and dimensional and do weird shit and capture your attention.”

Goliath Tribe OG Alec Merlino starred in five episodes of the first Season of The White Lotus. He played his own profession, a bartender. He was voted out on day 28 and was the fourth member of the jury.
Kara Kay and Angelina Keeley appeared in the first episode of Season 2. Keeley ended up in third place while Kay ended up in fourth as the final member of the jury. The duo talk to Meghan Faahy’s character Daphne about how they’re excited to stay at The White Lotus. When Daphne departs, she finds a dead boy in the ocean. The two also appear in the last episode of the season in the same scene.
Kay and Keeley opened up to Vulture about how Mike White approached them to appear on the show over brunch. “As I sat down, he goes, ‘I’m putting you two in White Lotus.’ I was like, ‘Oh, that’s funny, let’s get some mimosas and lattes,’” Keely said. “Why would he let us goofballs anywhere near his set? Mike was front row to some of the worst acting moments of my life on Survivor: jacketgate and the fake idol.”
“I was like, Maybe we’re in the background, waving, drinking some cocktails,” Kay recalled to Variety. “Then we got a draft of the script and realized, oh we have lines, we’re going to say something. We’re going to be acting.”
Natalie Cole and Carl Boudreaux make a cameo in the Season 3 premiere as a couple who dine together. Belinda, who’s on an employee exchange at the Thai resort, notices the couple and exclaims to Pornchai that she saw “two Black people … and they weren’t staff!”
Cole was voted off on Day 15 and Mike White actually was the deciding vote on her elimination, while White did the same on Boudreaux on Day 30.
“The fact that he could look beyond the way he felt about me in Fiji and ask me to come do a part speaks volumes about him as a person,” Cole told Entertainment Weekly. “Initially, he thought he was never going to speak to me again.”
It’s sort of a “Blink, and you’ll miss it!” kind of moment for Christian Hubicki. The Survivor contestant was eliminated in the 12th episode, and appeared in Season 3 of The White Lotus in the fifth episode during a transition scene at the hotel. After some chatter online on whether he has the cameo, he confirmed it by nodding another cameo in the episode. Uhhh… @chubicki and Emily with the stealth cameo on #TheWhiteLotus? It’s giving The Game Within The Game,” Rob Has a Podcast wrote on X with a screenshot of the scene. “No, that’s Sam Rockwell,” Hubicki replied.
