Who dies in The Last of Us Season 2?

This is the big one, and though we don’t know exactly when it’s coming, it’s likely going to happen early in the season. Joel’s death occurs very early in the second game, after all. It’s a result of his decision to save Ellie after he realizes the fireflies’ search for a cure will kill her. It’s absolutely brutal, with Abby killing Joel in revenge for the fact that Joel murdered her father, the doctor in charge of the operation on Ellie. She smashes his head with a golf club after torturing him for hours. And Ellie gets to watch. Suffice it to say, it’s not something we really want to see. Protect Pedro Pascal.

One of Abby’s crew, Nora, dies at the hands of Ellie, who swears revenge for Joel’s death. After the way Abby kills Joel, it’s hard to blame Ellie for wanting revenge on Abby and everyone who was involved, but Ellie goes after Nora for the location of Abby first and foremost. Despite that, though, she does beat Nora to death with a pipe, so there’s a bit of payback in the way Ellie kills her, even if there’s a lot more remorse there, too.
Manny (Danny Ramirez)

Does Ellie go after everyone in Abby’s crew, you ask? Well, that’s basically what the second game is about, and though we don’t know the timeframe of Season 2, we’d expect Danny Ramirez’s Manny, who is the first of Abby’s crew to die in the game, to also be killed in the second season of the show. In the game, it’s not Ellie who kills Manny, but Tommy, which feels rather fitting, considering in Joel’s death scene, Manny is one of the characters who takes the most pleasure at Joel’s killing.
Owen (Spencer Lord)

The Last of Us Season 2 will probably not do away with all of Abby’s crew, considering Season 3 has already been announced and Season 4 is already a possibility, but Owen is indeed killed by Ellie in the game and he might be the last blow for Abby, as he is perhaps her greatest asset. The game implies that Owen is in love with Abby and that Abby is, perhaps, in love with Owen, but she’s too consumed by revenge for a relationship.
Jesse (Young Mazino)

Perhaps the second most tragic death in the game is that of Jesse, Ellie’s friend and the father of Dina’s baby. Jesse is killed by Abby, quickly, via a shot in the face, during an altercation in Seattle after Abby discovers where Ellie and the rest are hiding, and Ellie barely has time to mourn him. Whether we actually see Jesse’s death this season or not, this would be a great way to end the season on a high—or low note, depending on how you want to look at it.
