Who Really Killed [SPOILER] In Joker: Folie à Deux? How the Murder Connects to Another Beloved Batman Movie

The “Real” Joker

Joker: Folie à Deux sets up the fact that Arthur was never the “Real” Joker we know in the DC Canon. When Arthur is bleeding out, the inmate laughs maniacally and carves out the famous Joker smile that we’re all familiar with. It’s unclear if this version of the Joker grows up to be Heath Ledger’s version in The Dark Knight, but it sure seems like it. “You wanna know how I got these scars?” Well, we got that answer.

As for his motives, we’re pretty unsure why he ends up killing Arthur. It could be to teach him a lesson and take the true moniker of the Joker from him to show Gotham his true ruthlessness.

Lee Quinn

After Lee confronted Arthur after he renounced his Joker persona and lied about his baby, Lee could have planted a hit on her former lover while he was in prison. We never see who the visitor for Arthur is, and he does look hopeful that it is her visiting him in prison.

The Guards

After being at the hands of Jackie Sullivan’s abuse in the asylum, there are signs that The Guards might have plotted Arthur’s death. Just by saying that there’s someone visiting him was one part of the plan.

Harvey Dent

Harvey Dent also had quite the origin story in Joker where we find that the bomb heavily disfigured his face— leading to one of Batman’s notorious archnemesis Two-Face. The killing might have been an act of revenge for Dent and he’ll maybe face the consequences with the Real Joker.
