JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX, (aka JOKER 2), Joaquin Phoenix as Joker, 2024.

Warning: HUGE Spoilers for Joker: Folie à Deux ahead. That ending was certainly an ending. If you’ve watched the entirety of the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster hit, you might be wondering, was that really you know who stabbing Arthur to death?

Joker: Folié a Deux follows directly after Joker and aligns more with the DC Universe we all know and love. Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) goes through a trial for the murders he committed in the original movie. While at Arkham State Hospital, he meets Harley ‘Lee’ Quinn (Lady Gaga) with whom he starts a steamy romance based on their shared trauma. The rest of the movie is a seesaw between a musical and a trial drama where Arthur fires his lawyer Maryanne Stewart (Catherine Keener) and represents himself. He later breaks down and denounces his Joker persona and is apprehended after a bomb goes off after the verdict is read.

A refresher for the last couple of minutes of the movie: The guards tell Arthur that he has a visitor waiting for him at Arkham. Another inmate stops him in his tracks and proceeds to tell him a joke. The punchline: multiple stabs. The inmate repeatedly shanks Arthur until he’s bleeding out on the ground.

Who killed Joker?

The identity of the killer is never revealed, but there are some talks about who actually killed Gotham City’s notorious supervillain—whether it’s for retribution or just at random.
