Another season, another treasure hunt. When the Pogues encounter a financial hiccup after achieving their dreams of opening up shop, a new perilous journey awaits them.
Wes Genrette and Chandler Groff recruit the Pogues in episode 2 of season 4. The two are looking for Blackbeard’s amulet after Wes tells the lore of his forefathers who killed Blackbeard and his wife Elizabeth. Elizabeth haunts Wes’ ancestors and appears to them as an apparition days before their death as a sort of revenge. Wes sees apparitions of Elizabeth and knows his time is coming, but wants to find the amulet so that they could break the family’s curse. The Pogues are hesitant and first but JJ convinces the group because of the amount of money they need to run Poguelandia.

Wes pens down a letter to JJ addressed to him as Master JJ Maybanks where he tells him to ask his father Luke about “Albatross.” However, Wes Grenette dies under mysterious circumstances and police noted that he was strangled to death. With villains appearing in every corner this season, who could the culprit be?

Chandler Groff is definitely suspect No. 1 behind Wes’ death. As his son-in-law and his only “known” living relative left, he suspiciously tells realtor Hollis Robinson that Wes’ property goes to the state after his death. Maybe it’s all part of his scheme of owning and selling all of Goat Island. With JJ finally learning that Chandler is his real dad, maybe we’ll get a real father-son confrontation and maybe even more scary family matters.
Lightner might not be a stranger to violence and intimidation (as he threatens Terrance and Cleo, and later kills the former). He even attacks John B in the cemetery as they’re trying to find the script that will lead them to the treasure. Wes and his recruits could have been a threat to Lightner and Dalia’s crew, and he doesn’t hesitate to attack anyone who gets in their way.
Lightner is working for Dalia who tells him and his crew to retrieve the amulet. She goes up against the Pogues when she and Lightner find the coffin of Blackbeard’s navigator, Sam Bellamy, in the crypt and retrieve a scroll that might lead to more treasure. Could she be the mastermind behind Wes’ death?
