I chose the perfect person for me and I am proud of myself for that and for being able to recognize where in the dating scene I was going wrong and actually landing my husband. That is something that’s not small.”

She also explained how her relationship with Milton’s family has become better since filming on Love Is Blind Season 5 ended. “They are my support system. They are the ones, besides my own family, who are constantly there for me. His mom has become my second mom. We were on the phone the other day for an hour and a half and I was like, “Oh my god, this is a lot,” and she was just being my support. It feels so good because right now my husband is in Long Beach, he’s not in Houston, so we have been traveling back and forth. When he’s not here in Houston, I have them and they are amazing,” she said. “They’re my family. I never got a bad feeling about meeting them. I never got that vibe or had that perception. I think their worries and concerns were granted. If you’re not in the whole experiment, there are a lot of questions to be asked and rightfully so. Right now, I love all of them: My sister-in-law, my mother-in-law, my pops. I call him ‘pops.’ I love them all for who they are. Right now they’re calling me like, Lydia, who do we need to fight?”

Lydia also responded to criticism over her and Milton’s relationship, especially after her drama with her ex-boyfriend, Uche Okoroha, on Love Is Blind Season 5. “People have a lot of time on their hands, let me tell you. People can say whatever they want to say. I don’t judge them,” she said. “They’re forming opinions based on a five-minute conversation because that’s what they saw, but they don’t know me. I know myself. I know who I am, my family and friends know who I am, and that’s all I care about, really. People really feel the need to go on social media and bully.”

She continued, “The other day, I had a situation with a comment where it said something like, ‘Please take her out of this planet.’ I’m like, you don’t know me and I am not this bad person. Actually, I think it speaks more to my fellow castmates who are trying to not respect what we were instructed to do than me and how I’m acting. I’m trying to keep my composure in all of this. I am not interested in the drama. I’m not interested in the negative aspects of it. I’m choosing to remember the experience in a positive light because I ended with the best outcome I could: my husband.”

In an interview with Netflix in October 2023, Lydia responded to the criticism over her relationship with Milton. “The aftermath of this experience is not what I expected it to be. I had this idea in my brain that it was going to be nice and, yes, there’s going to be some negativity, but not to this scale,” she said. “You start to reassure yourself and say, ‘Yeah, this is not the person who I am and no one is the person they were two years ago anyway.’” She continued, “My conscience is clear because I never did anything with ill intentions. I’m not this Machiavellian [person]. People are giving me too much credit. All of these conspiracy theories about how I got on the show don’t even make sense.”

She also addressed her drama with her Aaliyah, her best friend in The Pods, and Uche, her ex-boyfriend from before Love Is Blind Season 5. “I only presented my side of the story. Did I share a lot of details? Yes, but it was the excitement,” Lydia said about her telling Aaliyah details about her relationship with Uche despite Aaliyah not wanting to hear them. “I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I can finally talk to you about this.’ If I go back, heck yeah, I would’ve done it differently. I wouldn’t have told her anything if I knew that’s what she was really thinking and just stayed in the corner.”

She continued, “I can now hold myself accountable when I have done things wrong, but I have not done anything wrong. Yes, mistakes happen, but they are mistakes and I learn from them. But doing something to harm anybody? No, I will never. That is not me.”

Taylor also told E! News’ reaction to JP criticizing how much makeup she wears. “When he initially said it, I was like, ‘What in the world?'” Taylor said. “Like, there is no way you are acting completely different because of the way I look. We are on here for an emotional connection and we had built such a strong connection between us.” She continued, “I don’t think there’s a lot of truth behind that, but I was definitely hurt about it.”

Taylor confirmed that she the makeup comment wasn’t the reason she broke up with JP. “I didn’t leave J.P. due to the makeup comment, I left JP because I fell in love with this version of him and then that version was no longer there,” she said. “The person I fell in love with was not there and that was scary.”

Taylor also confirmed that she and JP have spoken since their split. “I just wasn’t ready. I needed to heal from what I went through with JP. But after I got past all that, I feel stronger and I love myself more. I learned to date with more intent and so I learned a lot of things.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in September 2023, Taylor also explained her reaction to JP’s criticism over her makeup. “I was confused because I don’t know how you could just shut yourself off because of the way somebody looks when you had built such a great emotional connection beforehand,” Taylor said. “I also don’t think he was being completely transparent about everything. I think there’s a deeper issue there — still don’t know what it is. I plan to figure it out. But it was hurtful. He put the blame on somebody for the way they look. I took so long to get ready that day to look good for him, and then he basically told me I didn’t look good.”

She continued, “It was probably day two or three where I was like, ‘I just cannot do this.’ I knew that I had to move home with him, and for me, I’ve never lived with a guy before. That’s a big deal, a big step in a relationship. I did not think him and I were ready for that. The situation wasn’t getting any better. I thought it would after our conversation, but honestly it just got worse. I wasn’t a 100 percent in it and I don’t think he was either.”

Taylor also told Entertainment Weekly what her final straw was in her breakup with JP. “I don’t think moving home with him would’ve fixed anything,” she said. “Probably would’ve driven us to really bad terms. So I think I made the right decision. At the time Love Is Blind Season 5 premiered, Uche and Lydia were not following each other on Instagram. 

In an interview with E! News in September 2023, Aaliyah confirmed that she and Uche were not still together after Love Is Blind Season 5. “Making the decision to leave, I felt like it was the best thing for me. It was really hard because I had a lot of love for him,” she said. “At the moment, I was like, ‘Man, I just don’t feel like this is the type of situation that I would want going into an engagement. 

Lydia told E! News that she was “shocked” when she learned that Uche and Lydia dated before Love Is Blind Season 5. “I was very shocked. I just felt it was super hard for me to process everything. I had fallen in love so fast. I was all in, and there’s a lot of room to be like, ‘Man, I don’t know about this.’ But it wasn’t just the reveal of their past, it was conversations that I had had with Uche,” she said. “Like any other dating situation, you learn things about them and people put their best feet forward in the beginning, and then the flaws start to come to the surface on both sides, and you’re like, ‘I don’t know about this.’ So that’s where I was, even before the reveal of knowing they had a past.” 

Despite everything, Aaliyah told E! News that she didn’t regret her time on Love Is Blind Season 5. “I was super nervous at first, and as I got more used to being in the setting, it was really exhilarating and refreshing to be in there, seeking out love and trying to find a partner in that way was so cool. It’s just different. It’s unique,” she said. 

Uche is a 34-year-old lawyer and entrepreneur from the Houston, Texas, area. His Instagram handle is @imabovethelaw. “Nearly 2 years ago I was asked to be on Netflix’s “reality TV” show @loveisblindnetflix – It definitely wasn’t what I was expecting, but I’m glad I’ll be able to share the story soon! Where was Love Is Blind Season 5 filmed? 

Love Is Blind Season 5 was filmed in Houston, Texas. Love Is Blind Season 1 was filmed in Atlanta, Georgia; Season 2 was filmed in Chicago, Illinois; Season 3 was filmed in Dallas, Texas; and Season 4 was filmed in Seattle, Washington. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2020, Love Is Blind creator Chris Coelen explained that each season casts contestants from the same city so long distance isn’t a factor in their relationships. “It was a really interesting and diverse cast in terms of the fact that they were all from many different places originally,” he said. “But they were all living around the Atlanta area [at the time of casting]. The reason that we did that was because we wanted to give these people a real shot at making their relationships work for the long term.”

He continued, “Whether you think [love] is going to happen or not, we wanted people that would be ready to be married. If you’re really in it—genuinely in it, which was the No. 1 casting criteria—it felt to us that it was too much of a bridge for someone living in Miami and someone living in Seattle to build. We thought let’s at least start with them in the same geographical area.”

Coelen also explained to Variety in 2020 about why he wanted each Love Is Blind season to cast contestants from the same city. “We wanted people to all be living, currently in the same place. It’s too difficult if you’re from Tampa and they’re from Portland, that just throws another wrench in. We wanted to give them a real shot at making their love and their marriage working,” he said. Coelen also told Variety at the time about the locations he was looking at for future Love Is Blind seasons. “Look, the idea is that ultimately we’re going to do this in other countries—it’s very global. There’s lots of places that that we could take it. Chicago is a great place to look at, so is New York, Boston, Houston. There’s so many different places that we could go. And like I said, outside of the country as well,” he said.

Coelen also told Oprah magazine in 2020 that The Pods lasted around 10 days, which started with a series of speed dates between contestants that lasted between eight to 12 minutes. We did a ranking system, from who you though was most compatible to least compatible after the first date. Every day, the list got shorter and shorter,” Love Is Blind season 1 contestant Mark Cuevas told Oprah magazine at the time. Coelen also told Oprah magazine made the cast smaller a few days into the The Pods stage to focus on the contestants forming “real connections.” “We ended up focusing on people who were really forming real connections,” he said.

Though the dates started short, Coelen told Variety that the producers allowed contestants to have longer dates once they saw how strong their connections were. “In the beginning nobody knew who anybody was. So we structured it so that they would have an opportunity to talk to everyone. They were never given any instruction on what to say or what not to say or what they could ask about or what they couldn’t ask about. And you see on the show, some people decided to [ask] ‘How tall are you, what do you look like?'” he said. “Other people were like, ‘Why would I ever do that? That’s not the point of this.’ We really wanted it to be their own story, their own journey. We would set it up so they had the opportunity to talk to everybody. Then from that point [it was monitored]. Let’s say somebody really wanted to talk to you and you’re like, ‘Yeah, I have no interest in that person.'”

He continued, “You’re not going to talk to them. It doesn’t matter. We’re not going to arrange people to speak to one another where somebody’s like, ‘yeah, I don’t want to talk to that person.’ We just wouldn’t do that. Multiple points throughout the day we had to break and they had to eat, go to the bathroom, go do interviews, but generally we wanted to give them as much time in the pods as possible with the people that they genuinely wanted to talk to. These dates are obviously cut down but they were hours and hours and hours long.”

Who are the Love Is Blind Season 5 hosts?

The Love Is Blind Season 5 hosts are Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey, who have hosted the series since it premiered in February 2020. The couple also hosted Season 1 of Netflix’s The Ultimatum. Nick was the lead singer of the boy band 98 Degrees from 1996 to 2012. The group reunited in 2012 and are still together. Nick has also released four solo alums: SoulO, What’s Left of Me, A Father’s Lullaby and Soundtrack of My Life. He was married to Jessica Simpson from 2002 to 2006, and the two also starred in their own reality show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica on MTV, from 2003 to 2005. Nick is also the winner of season 5 of The Masked Singer during which he performed as the character “Piglet.” Vanessa was the 1998 Miss Teen USA and was a correspondent for Entertainment Tonight and Total Request Live on MTV. She’s the current lead in CBS’ NCIS spinoff, NCIS: Hawai’i, which premiered in 2021.

In an interview with Distractify in March 2022, Nick explained that he and Vanessa wanted to host Love Is Blind because of how their own relationship was long distance when they first started dating. “When Netflix approached us with Love is Blind all those years ago, we jumped at the opportunity because the show really spoke to us personally,” Nick said. “When we first started dating, Vanessa was in New York and I was in Los Angeles. We didn’t get to see each other a lot so we had a lot of long phone conversations, learning everything we possibly could about each other.” He continued, “[Those conversations were] really important for building our relationship and knowing we wanted the same things before there were external pressures on the relationship.” Nick also told Distractify that he and Vanessa want contestants to “fall in love for the right reasons and then introduce everything else.”

Nick also told People in 2022 about how he thinks Love Is Blind would’ve worked for him and Vanessa if they had met in The Pods. “We’ve thought about that, often. And I really, I’m not just saying this for the benefit of this show, I think we would’ve,” he said. “We have the same birthday, we have the same passions, we have the same interests, we have the same drive. Things that motivated us.” Vanessa asked “You would’ve found me through a wall?” to which Nick responded, “I would find you anywhere.” He continued, “I really do think we would’ve found each other. I think we would’ve gravitated to each other. That’s what we did in life. Obviously, we knew each other.” Vanessa added, “We did. We had to find our journey to get to each other.”

Nick also claimed to Us Weekly in 2022 that he would’ve joined Love Is Blind if he was single. “I would. I mean, it’s fascinating,” he said. “Especially having seen the success of season 1 and seeing two loving couples still married to this day? If I watched that and I was looking for love, why wouldn’t you wanna be a part of that? You know, it’s proven to work!” He added, “This dating world is not one I ever was part of — this very superficial ‘swipe left.’ There’s so much judgment and you can Google everybody. I’m not from that era.”
