It’s almost not surprising to see these two go their separate ways on Ultimatum Day. J.R. did, after all, connect with his “trial marriage” partner Sandy enough that there was speculation the two had slept together. Plus, he didn’t really seem to do enough work on his baggage from his first marriage, which ended in infidelity and divorce. With Zaina being the one who issued the ultimatum, and J.R.’s revelation that he and Sandy kissed multiple times—Zaina was left with a choice of whether she could still trust him. But even after she decided she could and she wanted to start again, it never really felt like the two could ever get where they needed to. And ultimately, they didn’t, as J.R. told Zaina “I don’t think I’m at that point to give you what you deserve.”

Considering Zaina made it clear from the beginning that she was ready to move on if J.R. couldn’t get to a point where he was ready to marry her, it makes perfect sense that these two have each gone their own way since.

Sandy and Nick

Things went even worse for Sandy and Nick than they went for J.R. and Zaina, and that’s saying something. But they were always in the middle of the drama, from the moment Sandy matched with J.R. for their “trial marriage” and Sandy admitted to Nick she and J.R. had kissed on the first day, because she felt lying would be worse. Nick did not really react well, despite the fact that he was the one who issued the ultimatum in the first place. It was all uphill from there, and yet by the time the two got to Ultimatum Day, it felt like they might have a chance. Nick presumably goes to propose (though during the reunion, he claims he never had a ring), but Sandy’s reaction is not a good one. And that seems to be the final nail in the coffin for Nick, who decides to walk away from Sandy for good. “Thank you,” he tells her, gives her a kiss on the cheek and walks away.

During the reunion, Nick confirms that Sandy helped him check into rehab after he started drinking a lot post-show, and the two seemed in a much better place, with Sandy saying, “I’m really exhausted with my relationship with Nick,” and him owning up to his mistakes by saying, “I’m sorry that I f—ed it up for you in whatever way.”

Mariah and Caleb

Status: Still together

Mariah and Caleb got engaged on Ultimatum Day, and all seemed to be leading them there from the beginning. In fact, their biggest issue always seemed to be that Caleb thought Mariah was too young and he didn’t want her to regret getting engaged too early. Mariah didn’t get to finish a trial marriage, as he partner, Micah, left without giving her an explanation. But Caleb did, and he found a connection with Aria. Ultimately, though, it wasn’t a connection that in any way made him doubt what he had with Mariah, but one that made him sure that he wanted to move forward. He proposes to her in the last episode of the season and the two are still together now. In fact, they’re planning a destination wedding for 2026.

Aria and Scotty

The other couple that got engaged on Ultimatum Day on Season 3 were Aria and Scotty. The two had never lived together despite dating for three years and they had reached a point where Scotty felt he wanted to move forward. Aria, meanwhile, wasn’t so sure, particularly considering she didn’t really grow up with a good example of a healthy marriage. But the two seemed to take the experiment seriously, take the lessons to heart, and apply them to better their relationship and get to the final day ready to take that next step, together. Color-coordinated in red, Aria says yes and the two get ready for a new life together.

However, at the reunion, the two revealed they’re no longer together and Aria broke off the engagement one day later. “I realized I made a mistake pretty fast after,” Aria said. The two tried to work their issues in couple’s therapy, but couldn’t, particularly after Aria’s grandmother died and Aria suffered a miscarriage.

Vanessa and Dave left the experiment only a few days into their “trial marriage.” The show only tells us that they “secretly meet off camera” with Chanel and Micah and all four choose to pack their things and leave the experiment. The two are still together to this day and are planning an engagement “soon.”
