The final rose. Ever since they announced their split, Bachelor Nation has had questions over why Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick broke up and the real reason they ended their engagement after four years together.
Kaitlyn, the lead of The Bachelorette Season 11, and Jason, a contestant from The Bachelorette Season 14 with Becca Kufrin, started dating in 2019 after Jason appeared on an episode of Kaitlyn’s podcast, “Off the Vine.” “I walked into a studio in Seattle to podcast with Jason and Olivia,” Kaitlyn recalled in an Instagram post in January 2019. “I was crying on FaceTime to my dad when he came in. We had never met, but he hugged me … and said, ‘Let’s have a soft Tuesday together.’ I had asked Olivia to join me for the podcast because I thought I would need someone to help keep the energy up. But If you spend two seconds with Jason you realize his energy is electric and you can’t help but be in a good mood.”
The two moved in together in May 2019 and got engaged in May 2021. “It was everything I could have asked for,” Kaitlyn said of Jason’s proposal an episode of “Off the Vine” at the time. “The words that came out of his mouth were insanely beautiful. We’ve never locked eyes like that in our lives. We were holding hands, so intense, and I was listening to his every word, but still blacked out. It was really special.”
Two years after their engagement, Kaitlyn and Jason announced that they had broken in a joint statement on their Instagrams. So why did Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick break up? Read on for what we know about the end of their relationship.

Kaitlyn Bristowe and Jason Tartick confirmed their breakup after four years together in a joint Instagram post on August 7, 2023. “After sharing the news with family and close friends first, and taking the time to properly process it ourselves, we are saddened with heavy hearts to share that we have decided to end our engagement,” the post read. “We are thankful for all of you who gave us the time and space to process this life altering decision as there are many emotions and changes to navigate. Our dogs Ramen & Pinot will continue to be cared for together as brothers. While their humans are no longer romantically involved, we will love and take care of them together.”
The post continued, “Continuing our friendship is incredibly important to both of us. We feel grateful to be ending our engagement with love and respect for each other. It’s heartbreaking and sad to say goodbye, but our care and admiration for one another will never die. We are beyond thankful for the memories made together, and for your support of us and the boys throughout the years. Moving forward we will always have that level of support for each other. We don’t know what the future holds so please try to hold space for us in your hearts. Kaitlyn and Jason.”
The confirmation came days after Kaitlyn hinted at her split from Jason after fans speculated that the two were no longer together following several photos of her not wearing her engagement ring. “I cannot believe the audacity of people to expect things from me when I haven’t even been able to process things for myself. Have a fucking heart. You’re scaring me with your comments and demands. I’m almost worried about YOU,” she wrote on her Instagram Story.
The confirmation also came a week after Kaitlyn’s ex-fiance from The Bachelorette Season 11, Sean Booth, revealed on his podcast, “In the Booth” that he had reached out to Kaitlyn recently to ask her to stop talking about him in media interviews and her podcast, “Off the Vine.” “This is just, like, kind of me contradicting myself of talking to her because I asked her kindly to stop talking about me on her podcast because I said it’s not fun getting [media outreach] every few months,” Sean said, adding that he often “ignores” calls from media outlets asking for comments on what Kaitlyn says about him.
While Sean said that he didn’t want to “talk negatively” about Kaitlyn, he defended himself against comments that she’s made. “I just didn’t think what she was saying was accurate. I think she was saying things that were incorrect,” he said. “I know what happened. I know how everything went down. She can say what she wants to say — if that’s something that makes her feel better or something that she has to discuss. And, you know, she’s an open book. And she told me that, which I understand. And, sometimes, it’s good to talk about, like, it’s good talking about right now because I never talked about it! And I don’t want to sit here talking negatively about my ex who I spent time with.”
Sean’s podcast came after Katilyn suggested on Jason’s podcast “Trading Secrets” in April 2023 that she felt “used professionally” by Sean and implied that he “was hanging” onto their relationship “until his gym opened.”
“This is all just from my point of view and from how I felt and things that I saw,” she said. “It doesn’t mean they’re right or wrong, but would you or would you not agree that when couples come off the show — whether it was a Bachelor and the woman he picked or Bachelorette and the guy she picked — that that is a really hard foundation to start on and a power struggle? … All of these opportunities, they’re like, ‘We want Kaitlyn there and well, Shawn can come too,’ or ‘Maybe not. Maybe it’s just Kaitlyn or it’s the two of us together.’ But like it was always if I was there, then he was invited.”
She continued: “And I think that on top of already feeling emasculated on the show where you’re not the one and there’s other relationships building and you thought it was you the whole time and then you realize it wasn’t — how does the relationship even work after that? I don’t know. It’s hard.”
Hours after she confirmed her breakup with Jason Tartick, Kaitlyn Bristowe announced in an Instagram Story on August 7, 2023, that she was taking a social media break. “See you soon bye for now,” she wrote over a photo of her face. She continued, “If everyone can say some sort of prayer for both of our hearts we would love that. I just know social media can be awful so taking a little break.”
After announcing his breakup with Kaitlyn Bristowe, Jason Tartick posted a series of photos of them on his Instagram Story thanking her for her “support and love” throughout their relationship. “Thank you for the support and love over the years,” he wrote. He continued, “You will forever be this beautiful person that was brought into my life… Beyond heartbroken. Please be kind as we go through our individual journeys to heal.”
