Why are Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd divorcing?
In documents obtained by Us Weekly, the reason for why Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd are divorcing is “irreconcilable differences.” The paperwork was filed on October 2, 2023, and reveals the two do have a prenup in place. No other information is available at this time, although the rumor mill is already swirling, with a Deux Moi submission from three months prior causing fans to speculate whether it’s about Hurd, though there’s zero proof of that.
“I have it on good authority (aka my bestie is directly involved) that this country singer’s husband, who is also moderately well-known, cheats on her basically every time she’s on the road. He puts the kid to bed and immediately has a woman on the way. I wouldn’t say he’s famous but he’s well-known enough that he has no problem getting ladies to come over for one-night stands. If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard this specific piece of information, I would be rich.”
Like all DM rumors however, this one should be taken with a grain of salt. Hurd is never mentioned by name, and DeuxMoi herself—whoever she may be, her identity remains anonymous, but we do know she’s from New York City—has never claimed the rumors circulated by her account are accurate nor verified. “I’ve always stayed true to what I said from day one, which is that this information is not proven to be based in fact,” she told the New York Times in 2020. “I don’t do any additional research. I’m not a reporter.”
Morris told Us Weekly in 2019 that she and Hurd were making a successful relationship work despite having conflicting schedules. “I’ve learned so much from Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman. They’ve got the two-week rule. … They just make it look so normal and it makes me and Ryan feel like this could be normal as well,” she said. “We do a pretty good job at constantly keeping in contact, lots of FaceTime. We have the same manager now, so she helps our calendars really coalesce well and that’s helped it a good bit. Especially now that we’re married, it’s a little bit more important to us to see each other. We try to have a good balance.”
In 2018, Morris signed on to sing the lead vocals on Zedd’s “The Middle,” but before that, the song was pitched to dozens of successful female artists. In an interview with Variety, the production team behind “The Middle” revealed that their first choice for the song was Demi Lovato who, after recording a demo for the track, turned it down for her 2017 single “Sorry Not Sorry.”
Then, the song was pitched to other artists, including Camila Cabello, who was the team’s second choice for the song. When Cabello turned it down so as not to distract from the success of her 2017 single “Havana,” the song was bounced around to other artists—including Julia Michaels, Carly Rae Jepsen, Tove Lo, Bebe Rexha, Fifth Harmony’s Lauren Jauregui, and more—before it eventually reached Morris, who cut a demo of the song and earned the right to be its lead vocalist.
