If you’re keeping up with the trial that’s lasted three years, you might be wondering: Why did Tory Lanez shoot Megan Thee Stallion?

Megan Thee Stallion, real name Megan Pete, posted that she was shot in her in the foot on July 12, 2020 after Kylie Jenner’s pool party and that it required medical surgery. She then identified Tory Lanez to be the shooter in an Instagram Live on August 20, 2020. After the Live, Megan received threats online and claims that she was lying about the incident.

“Lol what I have learned abt majority of the people on social media is y’all like to hear bad news before good news, a lie spreads quicker than the truth, and y’all really be believing the shit YALL make up … I got hit at the back of my feet because when I got shot I was WALKING AWAY FACING THE BACK,” she wrote. “Why would I lie abt getting shot?”

Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was later arrested on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle. He pleaded not guilty. Three years after the incident, Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the shooting.
